Hello I really need help my cat smells weird but is clean and she is drooling a lot. Her mouth also smells weird but I think its from the drool. I gave her food but she had a few bits and left it. She had a little bit of water and that's about it. We gave her some warm milk but she didn't drink it. Currently she is sleeping but I'm seriously worried. Please help me. I thin'k I need to take her to the vet but I wanted to see if there is something I can do about it. Please help.

Hi there! Sorry to hear you kitty isn't feeling well. I have a fair amount of experience with this, unfortunately. It sound like your kitty is dealing with one of several things. My first guess would be severe gingivitis, with a possible abscessed tooth or mouth ulcers. I've had to have kitties have a tooth pulled more than once. How old is your cat?
Also, I would advise against feeding your cat warm milk, even though she may really love it. Cats can't digest milk properly, and it causes them to have diarrhea. They're basically lactose intolerant.
Make your girl a vet appointment as soon as you can, and hopefully with some good antibiotics, and maybe a tooth removed, she'll be doing much better. Your vet can also teach you ways to "brush" your cats teeth, to help keep this from happening again. But your first step no matter what is get her to a vet. Let us know how things go!

She really needs to see a vet. There are just too many things it could be. The smell could even be from diabetes, she could have ate something poisonous, she could have a mouth or throat tumor, the possibilities are endless. Good luck, I hope it's just an abscessed tooth, please keep us posted. I'll say a prayer for her.

Drooling in cats may be associated with the following:
  • Dental disease such as gingivitis, stomatiis, or periodontal disease
  • Other diseases of the mouth such as oral ulcers, cancer, or a foreign body in the mouth
  • Nausea or pain associated with gastrointestinal disease or pancreatitis
  • Motion sickness
  • Kidney disease
  • Liver disease
  • Salivary gland disease
  • Heatstroke (hyperthermia)
  • Receiving medications with a bitter taste
  • Ingestion of something caustic
  • Certain pesticides such as organophosphates or permethrin
  • Ingestion of certain insects or toads
  • Inability to swallow caused by rabies, tetanus, other neuromuscular disease (eg., facial nerve paralysis, certain types of epilepsy), foreign body in the esophagus, or other condition
  • Other esophageal diseases
  • Some cats may drool while they are kneading, perhaps as a sign of contentment

Find another vet!! That is not a responsible vet! I would be calling around to get my cat into another vet asap. Especially since the drooling is a "new thing".... Best of luck, keep up updated! :)

Not to terrify you, but I'm going to add one more possibility to check out. Around 12 years ago one of my cats contracted a very nasty ( disease? Condition?) called Toxoplasmosis. His symptoms were very similar to what you have described. Luckily I had a great vet, and my Jessie boy made it! But it was a hard road. The sooner you get yours in, the better. Best wishes and good luck....and let's all pray I'm wrong! Just thought you should know and I'm praying that Nora is better very soon.

I really need  to change my vet, but since I live in a small town, I don't really have many options.

What happened is I took my little kitty to cleaned her teeth last week, she is better now. I think it is a teeth problem!

Peaches always drooled, especially when she purred.  I used to call her "drooly cat".  But since she did this (and still does at times) it's not a problem.  However find another vet if you need to and from the teeth cleaning it sounds like tartar build up since she is better.  Also you can brush your cat's teeth with "special" cat tooth paste. They hate it but if her teeth/gums are a problem ask your vet.  How old is she?  Not to freak you out but my 18 year old cat developed mouth cancer which the vet said was very common in old  cats.  I had no idea!  I had her put down, she was 18 and suffering not being able to eat, and she must have mets to the brain because she acted disoriented, and her mouth smelled awful with profuse drooling.  She had 18 good and loving years with me and my ex and then my next fiancé.  Again, age plays a bit part in what I'm explaining about my dear Daisy. Try not to worry until you get a definitive answer.
