Thank you! We love him very much. I've had lots of kittens, but never one quite like him.

Thanks! We have three other cats and they generally ignore the cat couch. This little guy loves it.

His coloring is Seal point, and he also carries the Snowshoe gene. As far as breed, without any papers he'd be considered a domestic long hair. He's beautiful!

Thanks for the info, bigperm20! We got him at the Animal Welfare League and SPCA, and we are just in love with his personality. The breed question was prompted by my friends' responses when I first posted him to Facebook--I hadn't even considered that he was a ragdoll or snowshoe even in part. I was just curious if people much more knowledgeable than I would be able to identify his breed. He is a great little kitten.

To further elaborate it's most likely that your kitty has zero Ragdoll or Snowshoe ancestory. He simply carries some of those color genes. The gene for pointed coloring, and the gene for Snowshoe coloring.

Like I said he's domestic long hair. To call him anything else is not correct. This does not make him any less special, in my opinion it makes him that much more special.

Again, beautiful kitty.

Mm, yes... from way back he might have Siamese, since that's where the pointed pattern came from, but who knows what's been mixed in since? He's a bit of a Ragdoll lookalike, but you can't really tell with mixed-breed cats; it could be pure coincidence or he could have a purebred parent and you'd never know which. If he does have a purebred parent or grandparent, I would guess either Ragdoll or Birman quite simply because those are the two more common cat breeds with that pattern.

He's gorgeous, though. Just plain adorable! Pick a breed you like and say "mix" or "lookalike" or whatever--it doesn't really matter. He's your kitten and he's beautiful.

He's got the basic pointed coat pattern, plus the white-spotted gene, which gives him his white paws and mustache. The polydactyl toes are unusual but a quite harmless mutation. Polydactyls are also called "Hemingway cats" or "thumb cats". You may need to clip his claws a bit more carefully than with the usual kitten (get him used to this while he is young), but otherwise they require no extra care.

You will stick around and post photos of him as he grows, yes? :)

thanks for the insight! and, of course, the compliments. he is extraordinary. i knew about hemingway's thumb cats and it was actually my husband's interest in polydactyls that allowed me to get this fourth cat. fred always said, "no more cats! three is plenty!" but he also always said, whenever we watched cats 101 or whatever, "polydactyls are so cool. i want a mutant!" so when this heart-stealing mutant turned up at the animal welfare league, a friend made sure i knew about it. turns out extra toes were the loophole in the no more cats policy!
as for pictures, yeah. i have taken like 200 in two weeks, so i probably will be unable to resist posting pics here. i think he is going to grow up to be striking. it is hard to tell how big he will be because his feet are so disproportionately big on account of the 25% extra digits.
he literally has opposable thumbs.
2.0!€%>?%? hubb.
see that nonsense rigjht there?? he typed that. so i am leaving it there. he wanted to help post to the catsite!
