10 days later and we're going strong! The site is healing marvellously and we have about a week and a half and we can get the catheter removed an see what happens. I'm actually pretty confident that it will work.

Oh, that is so great to hear! I know all of us are rooting for your beautiful Theodore to make a full recovery! A week and a half, it must still be nerve wrecking. Can't wait for all this to be a thing of the past, eh?

Go go Theodore!

I just had one of my kitties at the vets Thursday and there was a man there with his cat who had this done.  We didn't go into details about it but he said it took him about 2 months to completely recover.  His kitty was a large tuxedo cat who was growling in the carrier the whole time and had just had a dental done.  He said he always growled like that at the vets since he had surgery that turned him into a girl.

Today is Diddy! We are currently on the 2.5 hour drive to see the specialist, to have Theodore's sent removed. We made it to the start of 6 weeks with it in. We now have to hope that the healing process is finished!

Thank you! It's been 24 hours since he's had it removed. The stent left a perfect round opening. The outer edge of the opening has been healed completely which is what we were hoping for. Hopefully now his body won't try seal two edges together because it's already healed. Now we just have to sit back and wait to see if it has worked! The surgeon said we won't really know for another two weeks or so.

Fingers crossed it stay the way it is now!

Edit: He still needs to have his big cone of shame on for the next week or two to prevent him from licking it and inflaming it again as that will start the healing overdrive all over again.

I've been away for a while but the first thing I did was check this topic. I'm so happy that you had some good news! Thank god everything went okay, poor Theodore must be sick of it all as well!

Such good news, great start of my day! I sincerely hope everything will stay this way and no new issues will present themselves, you and Theodore have both earned a bit of rest and peace.

All my thoughts are with you!

Thankyou @Caralian! It's almost a week with the catheter out now and the opening is perfect! He's still weeing really well and he's such a happy cat! We do have the cone on still and we plan on leaving it there for at least another week and a half just to be sure it's healed and he's not interfering with the rest of the healing, if it is.

Here he is on my husband :) Happy cat or what?

Almost 2 weeks later and it's going really well! He appears to be back to his usual self. I hope it stays this way. We have left the cone off now and it's been that way for a few days. No issues so far and he's loving the freedom!

We're still on tenterhooks and we will be for awhile. We're constantly monitoring the opening which is still the way it was the day he had the catheter removed. We try not let him lick too much but eventually it's gonna happen and the poor thing can't have a cone on for life, right?

What I have noticed though is since he's had the cone off, he's has been really nasty to our other girl. Sometimes I can't tell if it's all just play fighting or if it starts out that way and then he gets aggressive and too rough with her. After a good 10 mins of rough and tumble one of them starts screeching but I can't tell who it is. I'm hoping that it's just a frustration thing on Theodore's behalf and he will settle down again.

Maybe he is worried the other cat will hurt his tender parts maybe that is why he is mean to her.
