Hello!

I've currently just adopted a 2 year old long haired cat. I've done some research and want to feed her strictly a wet food diet. After doing some budgeting I believe the "chicken soup for the cat lovers soul" brand would be be best, I just don't know how MUCH to feed her.. She is an average cat size 7-10lbs.

Also when letting me know how much or how many cans to give her please let me know if you're talking about a 3oz can or 5.5oz can ect. Any other advice as well will be appreciated

p.s no use asking a vet in my town this question because all they recommend is science diet dry food.

Thank you!!:wavey:

Hello , the average cat will eat  5 to 6 ozs of wet food per day .. Could be more or less depending on the cat and the  calories per can .   I  think for 1 cat it is easier to feed 3 oz cans as no left overs but it may be more economical to buy the bigger cans.

Here is a chart that may useful in figuring  the daily amount to feed .. It may vary for individual cats .

Most indoor neutered adult cats of average activity level need about 15-20 calories per pound of ideal body weight daily. It would be good to know your cat's exact weight (as well as the ideal weight if different) so that you can monitor for unwanted weight loss or gain.

Be aware that calories per can may be vastly different!  For instance, a 3 oz can of Natural Balance Catatouille is only 45 calories, while a 3 oz can of Simple Nourish Source is over 100 calories (if memory serves).  And I think Nutro Natural Choice "minced" cans are around 65 calories, while their Chunky Loafs are closer to 95.  So....you need to check for calories as part of the process, as well as ingredients, if you want to feed the best possible for your furkid.

Maybe this article will be helpful too:  http://www.thecatsite.com/a/how-much-food-should-i-feed-my-cat
