I don't know if it's just me but I find it really difficult to snap a decent photo of my cat Chloe. I can't see any detail unless the shutter stays open for a long time. Of course by then she has to run to the next corner... I took over 100 pictures and got a few decent ones. She's 8 months old now :D

Anyways here are some decent pictures of Chloe! Enjoy!

1. This is her derp face. She does this when something catches her eye while she's grooming herself.

2. Just being attentive. Wondering what the camera is doing in her face.

3. Looking at my toes.

4. She was watching my snake move from the cold to warm spot. Then I interrupted her.

5. You can barely tell but her eyes are open. I interrupted her nap. I interrupt her a lot.

6. And finally she's just chilling in the early spring sun

7. She makes this face before she pounces me

8. Sitting at the window

9. I told her to make a pretty face. She does this instead.

..... Had to take 100+ to get a handful of good ones. The woes of having a black cat :)
@Hopps   I don't have a black cat and it still takes me that to get the odd good photo.

More the joys of digital photography than the woes of having a black cat in my case, not sure I'd manage even 1 with a black cat.  Your pictures are great, and really show off Chloe's character so I hope we see plenty more.   With pictures like these she should have a fabulous Cat Page to tell us all about the antics and personality behind her cheeky face.

Haha thanks! Yeah to get any detail I have to leave the shutter on for more than .3 seconds which is ridiculous since she moves around so much... I guess I'll start a page for her when I can more pictures!

Do you guys have any good tips on how to get good pictures of black cats. Especially those who don't like to stay still. I can get great pics of my tabby Zoey but never of Luna. I have a decent canon that has a manual mode, but it's not a DSLR.

I wish I did.  I've posted before that I have about 10,000 photos of black blobs and a couple of decent ones.
I try to catch them in front of windows or against some kind of light background.

I have tons of good or even excellent pictures of Panthera. Just take lots of them and discard the bad or mediocre ones. Play with kitty until she is tired and settles down. Don't try

to pose her, just take pics whenever it's a naturally pleasing pose. Have your camera ready at all times. I have a very cheap ($89.00 at Target) digital camera made by

Fujifilm/Finepix Z and it takes great pix. I would not want to blow them up too big, there just are not that many pixels, but for everyday pix it's great.

these and the following pix were taken too close with the flash, so the fur is shiny but looks too grey

no flash here and the natural light comes from the left, this makes the eyes show their natural color,

with thw cat looking straight at you and with flash you get the "devil's eyes", the light reflects from the back of the eyes

taking in the heat from the space heater, closest thing to a fireplace

this one has another cat looking through the cat door deciding if she wants to come in or not

he's outside  wanting to come in, he looks so forlorn, had not yet learned how to use the cat door

one of his best pictures

avoid this, black cat on black sheepskin does not work, try something lighter. Natural light works the best when it comes from the side.

I hope this helps.

No photo here as it wasn't my cat to post photo on line but:   I was at a cat show yesterday and the Best of Breed Domestic Pet selected as a runner for the Best in Show was a black domestic short hair
He was a very handsome boy and quite a substantial handful!  In previous years I have seen a domestic short hair cat (a red / ginger tabby) take the over all Best in Show prize over all the pedigree cats there and that really made me smile.

those eyes! she is intrigued by the chord that the camera is attached to (wrist-chord?), and as usual she started playing with it a few seconds later... :)
