Exactly, and you don't want to discourage their efforts either, although they aren't experts by no means.

I do worry about your leaving though. This means it is solely up to them to feed, and get the meds done as often as needed.

When do you leave?

What makes you think momma cat will not care for him?

I can see she doesn't make an effort for him. I several times saw the other kittens eating while he just lays there, she doesn't make an effort. and since yesterday she has only been sitting with them once a day and once at night. Eventhough we did give her vitamin gel AND shot.

Her own kittens are ready to explore now, and he is not her own. I am not sure she can tell that he is still fragile and still needs her.

I'm glad to see his eye was in there after all.

Is there anyone else who could take over feeding him and giving him his medicine while you are away?

unfortunately nobody I know is willing to do that. The twins will continue feeding at night, but I am not confident with the way they do it, the intervals and the volume.  Catwoman707 sent me a private message explaining what they should do, show them that for leverage to get them convinced that they need to be more patient, and that just a few quick drops every 5 hours won't do the job!!!!  I will lt you know how that goes when i am back at tonight.

Hey everyone,

I came back yesterday from my trip home, and went to check on the little grey.

He seems to be have grown a bit, still tiny but there is a visible improvement. He also started to eat some pate - I wonder how good that is for him?  He was so eager to it he was shaking!!!

Here is the photo of his eye... in my absence, it seems that the twins stopped the eye drops thinking "it is too warm for the eyes" and they were proceeding with a drop of diluted antibiotics every other day. :(  pouf I am getting to my limits with their "vets know nothing" attitude - but I must mediate the situation as smoothly as possible for the sake of the cats.

I have no idea why the eye looks this way though. is this a sign of it getting worse or better?   It was closed and covered with something yellow, i wiped it with warm napkin/water and it opened again, and there it was.

@Feralvr    Thank you for the continued vibes, @catwoman707   has been super-hero-helpful all the way. I would not be able to do it without her and everyone else helping on TCS :)

Okay they have obvously not been giving the drops as supposed to.

What makes them believe they know better than the vet when they have so many there who re not in great shape? Frustrating....

Please get the drops in the kittens eye each time you see him at least. Gosh, why don't they get it?! It's clear the eye still has infection going on, stuck shut and had to wipe it for it to open? Plus I can see it is swelling again around/under the lid, that is pus that builds up, are they okay with him being blind in that eye I wonder? Jeez..

He also has grown a bit, but he should have actually grown quite a bit more by now.

He is about how old now? I don't remember this moment without looking back through the thread.

So glad you're back for him at least!!

I totally hear you! it is really frustrating, and sometimes it gets really difficult for me to hide it, but when you are in someone's garden you can't really offend them. I am glad they are open to letting me help with the little I am doing.

In fact I am sure that all the time I was away they did not give the poor thing a drop even, because this huge swelling was not there before I left, which drove me crazy yesterday.

I am also worried about one of the other kitties who seems to be a bit thinner than his brothers, and less active. I did raise that to their attention and made sure they are fed patte and water in addition to the milk. (the mom completely stopped nursing them)

I think if only for 5-7 days they would just get serious about the eye drop we can heal this problem and get over with it.

Poor little baby.... The eye looks bad and he must be uncomfortable with it. I hope that you are able to undo the damage from him not getting the drops. I understand you needing to remain calm with these people - a mediator in a way. Upsetting though when you are trying to do good and they undo it in your absence. :shame: Mega, enormous vibes for this baby AND the other one you think may be getting sick. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

today is the third day he was getting the drops (since my return basically) twice a day. The vet was horrified at the sight of the photo; I am taking him there tomorrow, and will let you know what he says.

I hope it is not too late to save his eye.

I am glad to hear the vet's reaction, maybe then the twins will understand, their decisions are not always the right ones for these kids.

Let us know!

I am relieved to hear that you are taking the kitten to the vet to have a look. The eye does look awful and I am so sorry for the little one but am SO grateful for YOU. That baby is in good hands. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

Ok. The red ball has almost entirely ceared up. The eye is showimg but it looks like there is afoggy layer om top of it.

The vet asked for another 5 days of antibiotics.

I took him and the other 3 kittens to the vet, got them dewormed and got them a flea collar. (Heavy on the pocket lol)

The vet said they are doing well.

What is that shade on the eye? Will it remain? Will he see afterwards?

Yes it's scar tissue basically. It's a bit too soon to tell at this point how it will be later, but in another month or so you will know if he has vision in it, or not, also whether some of the scar tissue will fade away or will be there permanently.

Caused by infection/trauma to the eye.

Not too important really, it's not a bad thing, one eyed cats do just fine. The main thing is getting the infection completely gone.

Great job as usual @djoe  !!

Oh, regarding flea collars....well mixed thoughts here, I would NOT use them, they can be toxic and even make a cat/kittens especially, very sick, however I don't believe that you have flea meds like we do in the US, and fleas can be extremely tough on kittens causing anemia to the point of death even.

So it's mixed feelings about this.

Yes - your doing a very good job, djoe. Adding in my thoughts on the flea collars. Absolutely not. Take them off as they can make them extremely ill, and be a choking hazard too. Honestly, flea collars are a thing of the past and I am surprised they are still being sold. But, where you live, there may not be other options?? Continuing the vibes for the babies. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

Hi everyone.
Sorry I was travelling Last wekk.
Kottens are doing very very well. They are flea free and running around. The eye is completely infection free but a haze of grey is on it. His vision is not damaged.

He will be soon up for adoption together with the other 3.

I took off the collar and got flea spray to be used for everyone.

Someone dropped 5 kittens (about 4 to 5 weeks old)in a bag in the garden of the twins. They took tgem in but as usual did not know how to handle them. Thry have fugus and maybe ring worm and infections and fleas and all sort of YUCKI stuff. And on top, one of them is suckling on his siblings he got some of them severe skin irritation, a wound and hair loss.

I took them to the vet where they will stay for the night for full treatment and then thry will go to another place to recover for 1 week. ... Then adoption process will be launched.

These kittens have smth that feels like little balls under their skin. Anyone familiar with it?

Oh and on the flea collar, 1 flea spray costs less than 1 flea collar. So when I bought 3, no wonder the vet gave that to me!

Right! Smart vet.....

Excellent news all around djoe, what an amazing job you have done!!

When kittens are away from their momma at too young of an age, like bottle fed especially, they will often do that, which can cause problems for the victim :) Even infection if it's gone on long.

Little balls under their skin? Like maybe from flea bites perhaps? Not sure.
