hello

My Prince is a black 2 yr. old cat who eats odds stuff. he waits until he gets a chance to steal my hairbands from my bathroom drawer. he eats my daughters rubber bracelets when were not home. he has swallowed  string. Just yesterday he threw up this huge wad of all that stuff and it even had a piece of hard plastic in it. theses were things that went missing weeks ago. where in his body was all that stored and why does he do that?

This behavior is called PICA, and it's not clear why some cats do this, but it can be very dangerous. At 2 years old, it's not just kitten curiosity any more. I know it may be a pain to do, but I would hide all the small things that he may be prone to eating in a drawer or something that he can't get into. These things can cause life-threatening bowel obstructions which may require surgery.

One of my cats loves to eat tape, rubber bands, hair bands, so I have to tape my plastic drawers containing those items shut or else she'll put her paw under and pull the drawer out. Baby locks work too.

I have a very curious cat, and a few years ago she got into some yarn from my sister's knitting. We had to take her to the vet that same day, thankfully we got there in time, or the outcome could have been worse. I would definitely try to hide string, hair bands, and anything else like that. You can try putting stuff in containers or a closet. We put our yarn in an extra bag in a storage closet that the cats can't open, and the hair bands in a locked container on the bathroom counter. We haven't had a problem since. I hope something works for you! It can become a scary situation.
