What could be wrong with my kitten?

I have two kittens who are about 6-7 months old give or take (they started out as my roommates' cats, but they like me more and we bonded so well that I decided they were mine ;) ...so I don't remember how old they were when they got them in March. Their names are Oscar and Farrah. Oscar recently had a small infection on his lower lip from a bite from either playing with his sister or the 2 month old puppy we recently got, Dexter, and the hair on that bottom lip started to fall out. We just squeezed it, since it didn't seem to hurt him, and got all of the gunk out and it cleared right up by the next morning. Three nights ago Farrah jumped up on our shelf, knocking over an Ivy plant in the process and broke the glass bulb used to keep it watered. Now, since two days ago, Oscar has has a fat upper lip on the left side, so he looks like he's snarling all of the time. I don't see any puncture wounds like there was on the bottom lip to suggest that he got bit on the mouth again, so I don't know if he might have eaten some of the Ivy and is having an allergic reaction, got stung by the cactus plant we have on that shelf as well, or what the problem could be. It's starting to worry me because it seems to be getting worse (it's now got a red spot on it and seems to be getting more swollen). I gave him a 1/4 of a Benedryl pill tonight to see if that will bring down the swelling. I just feel so bad, because he looks like a plastic surgery patient who had a bad procedure, his lip is swollen on that one side, and until Friday (today is Thursday morning) on pay day, I can't afford to take him to the vet to get checked out. So, I figured I'd ask my question on a forum before I take him to the vet to kind of have an idea of what could be wrong and how I can maybe help him ease his pain or make him more comfortable until then. He's playing and running around like usual, the Benedryl made him a little clingy and sleepy, (but that's okay, I don't mind cuddling with him lol)...but I do know that this spot hurts him this time, because he'll flinch any time I touch it, even if I barely and softly touch it.

Any ideas? I'd appreciate it. So I at least have some ideas when I head into the vet's office. I just feel bad for my little guy and want to make him better again. He's just had the worst luck this past week.

So sorry your kitten is going through this. Unfortunately only a vet visit is going to be able to determine what is going on. Sending
all goes well and he recovers from this quickly.

There are things called rodent ulcers that make the lip puffy.  They can be treated.

In the meantime, I would not have a cactus or ivy around my kitties.  Unfortunately, too many plants are toxic and it isn't worth the danger for our animals.

Please let us know how your little one is and good luck at the vet.
