To see if your cat(s) likes raw, try giving him a piece of raw chicken, or what ever meat/protein you're fixing for yourself (assuming you're not a vegan or vegetarian), and see how they react.  If the raw food you feed is less than 15% of the total food you feed your cat, then you don't have to supplement.

There may be an additive in the dry or canned food that your cat can't tolerate.

I think I will because things have not gotten better.  He is loosing his bowels everywhere now and even though I'm back to the fancy feast his stool is still loose and a dark brown.  I feel like the pro-biotic is not working anymore.  I switch up between the psyllum, pumpkin and slippery elm and nothing seems to be working anymore, I don't understand what happened that first three days it worked and ever since nothing has improved no matter what I try now.  The weight he started to pick up he seems to be losing again, this is so frustrating and I wish I knew what was causing all of this I feel like I'm letting him down by not being able to fix what is wrong and I'm praying this doesn't cause me to loss him because it definitely has me worried.  Thanks to everyone that has continued to reply to my post and give great suggestions and advice.

Constantly switching food and/or things to try to fix the problem probably won't help.

My own suggestion would be a very bland diet - chicken and rice for example - and if there are still problems after a week of nothing but that consult another vet.

Your cat is up-to-date with worming?  I'm not suggesting you should worm him at present, but worms can cause all sorts of problems and are one thing a stool test can pick up.

Yes, he is up on deworming and after trying all the grain free foods I have been giving him his prescription w/d food in addition to the fancy feast.  Also when he had blood in his stool we did do a stool sample. I'm planning on starting a thread in the raw food forum and see how that can help, at this point its the only thing I have not tried and if that doesn't work I'm going back to my vet and the specialist that I have been using for this issue.  He suggested other medications I can give him but I wanted to try more natural ways because I don't want to keep giving him meds but I may not have a choice, financially as much as I love my kids its taking its toll because the medical cost are growing.

What exactly is going on with your little one?  Maybe it would be good if you started a new thread with exactly what is going on, what has been done so far, what tests, etc, so we can address your issues specifically.

I would say the feline's pride raw made easy kit with your choice of meat (boneless or with bones) would be less expensive than what you're doing now.

I have a new cat (one year now) that had diarrhea with every food I tried, many trips to vet. Just by chance I tried Vital made by Freshpet, not cheap 5.99 a pound at petsmart, but the diarrhea went away in two days. For the first 10 months the Vital or home made raw was all he could eat without getting diarrhea. He can now eat  grain free canned food(wellness) that my other two cats eat, along with the Freshpet. So glad  I found this food. Hope it works for you.

My 8 month old kitten had diarrhea from the time he was at the shelter and after we brought him home.  I took him to the vet where they gave him metronidazole (Flagyl) and performed a fecal test.  The fecal test came back negative for parasites, worms, giardia, etc.  After being on the metronidazole for 7 days, there was no change.  He was still having diarrhea or sometimes it was the consistency of pudding.  I tried changing food, adding organic canned pumpkin and brown rice to his wet food, but nothing seemed to help.  Then I read about psyllium fiber.  So I added 1/2 teaspoon to his food and, like magic, his poop firmed up and there have been no problems since.  I'm not sure how long I will have to keep putting psyllium in his food, but if it's for the rest of his life it's worth it.

Trader Joe's sells psyllium fiber (Secrets of the Psyllium) which is all natural and has no sugar, starch, salt, yeast, wheat, corn, milk products, coloring or preservatives.

I did something crazy! First of all, thank you guys for suggesting it. I was devastated by my cat's diarrhea. I even considered putting him down but then I read some of the comments here and I decided to try giving him raw food. It didn't seem the wisest thing to do but I did it anyways. I gave him raw beef and it worked! It has been 36 hours and he has pooped once! He used to go straight to the litter box after eating and leave a big liquid pool! I'm certainly going to feed both my cats raw food from now on. But there's still the financial concerns. Can anyone help me find a way to get the raw food with a reasonable price? I live in Boston.
