My new family addition is named Whisper. He is a Siamese/mix kitten. I have been waiting to post anything about him because I didn't want to jinx myself. He is currently living with his foster mom and his sister awaiting the day he weighs enough to be fixed. The shelter won't let him come home to me until he has been fixed.

Anyway,I just heard from my kitten's foster mom. He finally weighs two pounds, but he is sick. He has a fever and was a bit lethargic. He had the test for FIV and FELV last week and it was negative. There isn't an apparent URI either. The vet seems to think it's something abdominal. He does have a tape worm, but the vet doesn't think that is causing his fever.

I just need some vibes for him and that he will be okay. The last kitty I was going to adopt from this shelter got sick and passed away before he could come home. Now I'm so afraid the same thing could happen again. His foster mom is great and is actually paying for all his medical care out of her own pocket. That's not how I thought the foster program worked, but maybe each one is different.

Vibes for Whisper!!

This picture doesn't do him justice. He is soo much cuter in person. His color has changed some too. He has more of a chocolate face and his coat doesn't appear to be quite so grey anymore. Him and his sister are just super cute. I'm waiting to see if his foster mom can email me some current pics. Meantime, he could use some prayers and vibes to make sure he gets better.

What a sweet little thing, I sure hope he gets over whatever it is. You have all our vibes, mine, my DH, and our 11 kitties. Let us know what happens.

Whisper goes back to the vet today. Keeping fingers crossed for some good news. His foster mom said she put a little bit of Tuna at the bottom of his kitten food and he ate a bunch to get to it. Hopefully that is a good sign. She said he was still lethargic...just doesn't play as much as he did before the fever. I will post another update as soon as I know anything more.

Has he had his shots? When we got Nadette, on December 5, all she did was sleep to the point that I called the foster lady to find out if that was normal. Then suddenly, on December 25, she just started playing and being more normal. I think it was from her shots. (and she was an adult when we got her.) Hope that's all that is!!!

This is the email I got from his foster mom today:

Whisper did not have a fever at the doctor's office , but the vet got blood test results back and he is anemic. She said that the anemia is why he is so lethargic. She is going to start him on an additional antibiotic that targets what usually causes anemia in cats. I believe she said the cause was most likely a parasitic infection. She is also ordering another blood test to verify the cause of the anemia is the parasitic infection and not something more serious. We should get those test results back in 1-2 days.

He hasn't perked up yet, but I think it is a good sign that she is letting him come home with me. We have a follow up visit Thursday at noon. She showed me how to check his gums. Whisper's gums are pale and Abigail's are bright pink. She said that if his gums get any paler to bring him in right away.

I'm still hoping he bounces back from this.

Glad to hear that whisper is doing better. It's good they know the root to why he wasn't feeling so well. He's adorable and I'm sure you can't wait to get him home.

Glad you have something to go on now. That's half the battle! He is such a cutie pie.

I will still keep him in my thoughts and prayers. Hugs to you for being so good to the little guy!

I'm hoping Whisper is on the mend. His foster mom says he is doing much better this morning. We still have to wait for the blood test to come back to see what is causing his anemia, but I'm hopeful for now.

Newest update for Whisper from his foster mom. Got it last night around 9 pm central time:

I just wanted to give you a quick update. Whisper is playing and romping around again! Such a sweetie

Those vibes must be working. Thanks guys! Hopefully soon he will be 100 percent so he can withstand the surgery to be fixed. Then he will be in his forever home.
