I love animals, especially cats, They are amazing creatures. While I'm not especially religious, I believe cats and other animals can be angels (or angels can be them?). There are some amazing stories about animals that would support this pov. One of my favorite quotes, by Jean Cocteau is, "I love cats because I love my home and little by little they becomes its visible soul".
My bf and I adopted a cat in 2017 that was being fostered, after his original owner was shot & killed (unsure of the details) He was in the house for approximately one week before he was found and taken to a shelter (very matted and frightened). He is not fond of strangers and tends to hiss and swat if unaccustomed to them. This increases significantly with veterinarians, who end up coning him. Because of this, he was not thought to be adoptable. George had been declawed on all four paws by his previous owner(s). This is something I could never do to a cat on its front paws, let alone all four. George has fallen from surfaces as he has no claws to hold on.
My bf was unaccustomed to pets and very nervous about getting one, while I have had them for most of my life . Guess who George has deeply bonded with? And vice versa. He has his moods, but is remarkably cooperative when I have to give him medicine or treat him for something (like ear hematomas). He is a very lazy cat who rarely even plays and tends to ocd'ishly clean himself, to the point where he has no hair above his eyes and often has raw skin there. He has some gastric issues for which he was taking medicine and on a prescription diet. We now have him taking slippery elm syrup almost daily and probiotic powder periodically which seems to control it fairly well. I am working on finding a new vet as it has now been over a year since the last time. The old vet is okay but we want to find one who uses holistic medicine instead of only prescription. If I was wealthy, I would hire a cat psychologist/whisperer to find out why he licks himself so obsessively (and us), why he won't play & how to get him to be more active. He has definitely bonded with both of us, although he does attack and bite my hand sometimes, without breaking the skin.
I am hoping to get some ideas on here that can help George with some of his "quirks".
