    Help - Feline Hyperesthesia

Isador - I'm so sorry you're going thru this too - It still amazes me how many kitties deal with this and vets are still clueless.  As far as the Amitriptyline - If I remember right I think my Tucker started at 10mg.  He got a pill for about 2 days before I gave up fighting him and got it...

    Help - Feline Hyperesthesia

Oh YAY!!!!  I'm so glad the amitryptyline is working for your baby.  My Tucker has been on it for 5 years now and he's perfect.  I'm not sure how to answer your dosage question.  I could NOT give Tucker pills so I have it compounded into a cream/lotion that comes in a syringe tube.  It says...

    Help - Feline Hyperesthesia

Oh, I'm so sorry you're going thru this.  I remember it well. Tucker attacked his tail not his back (although the back rolling was obvious).  He also was always spooked by "ghosts" - he'd jump sky high and freak out when there was nothing there to be afraid of.  Thru bad vet advice we ended up...

    Help - Feline Hyperesthesia

Wow- I didn't know this thread was still going.  I wrote that in April 2011.  I can't believe it has been over four years since that horrible time.  Well - the 4 1/2 year update is that Tucker is doing great.  He's been on amitriptyline, a small dose in his ear each day, for over four years now...

Feline Hyperthesia Sydrome and My Poor Cat

Keep an eye on her.  Tucker went from "playing" to hissing to mutilating pretty quickly (within about a month).

Feline Hyperthesia Sydrome and My Poor Cat

So sorry to hear about Lovebug.  I'm glad she doesn't have the more serious symptoms (my Tucker self mutilated his tail).  Hopefully the things you're already doing will work but if you do have to try the amitriptyline don't be scared of it.  That is what saved my little boy.  I get it in the...

Feline Hyperthesia Sydrome and My Poor Cat

Ok - you are no where near me :) This all started in Feb. of 2011.  At first he looked like he was just playing and would start running in circles trying to catch his tail and actually growling at it like it was a foreign cat or something.  Thought it was cute at first, then I walked into my...

Feline Hyperthesia Sydrome and My Poor Cat

Believe me I know what you're feeling - I'm so sorry.  If it were me, I would try the amitriptyline.  It is different than Prozac.  Prozac is an anti-depressant and the prednisone is a steroid.  Amitriptyline is an anti-anxiety med.  If you think about the symptoms she's having I think the...

Feline Hyperthesia Sydrome and My Poor Cat

:)  I could see this.  It does gives Tucker the munchies. I'm not a big believer of rationing cats food unless there is a medical reason to (just my opinion), so they have dry food out all the time.  (2 flavors cause they're spoiled)  Other than the occasional tuna, chicken or turkey they don't...

Feline Hyperthesia Sydrome and My Poor Cat

Hi - my Tucker has FHS (which I had to diagnose myself due to some clueless vets).  You can search my old posts if you want the whole story on what happened.  Needless to say we ended up amputating his tail because he mutilated it and pulled out all the fur.  If your baby ends up doing this - DO...

How to hide bad-tasting liquid medicine?

If you are already using a compounding pharmacy - ask them if it can be made into a topical gel/lotion.  My Tucker is on amitriptyline and we have it compounded into a topical. I put a small dot on the inside of his ear.  Soooo much easier than pills!  (and it really isn't that much more...

My cat randomly poops (diarrhea) all over house

One of my cats did this as a kitten when we first brought her home (before she got fixed).  Our vet at the time said we could give her just a small amount of pepto-bismol.  It did the trick.  It would only be a short term solution for you but might help on a particularly bad day.

lump on chest - anyone had this

The vet didn't really do a thorough exam so she wouldn't have noticed it.  Supposedly she can't refill a prescription without seeing the cat at least once a year, so I took him in, she asked how he was doing and refilled the meds.  $35 and a wasted 45 minutes.  I hadn't noticed it before, but...

lump on chest - anyone had this

Thanks Otto - I can always count on you for a response It is up higher than the nipples, about even with his front legs (an armpit, if cats had them).  It's actually in a spot that if he wasn't such a snuggler, I probably never would have even noticed it.  Oh, and it does move around - stays...

lump on chest - anyone had this

My Tucker is a snuggler that loves his belly rubbed.  I noticed the other day that he has a lump sort of under his front armpit towards his chest.  It is about the size of a small peanut.  It doesn't hurt him and he seems fine (other than he has FHS and is on meds for it).  Anyway - I'm not too...
