    Hyperthyroidism

Just for reference insulin does not cure diabetes, lisinopril does not cure hypertension, etc. Those meds could have serious side effects too, but are used to treat their respective conditions, not cure them. RI is an option to consider when it can be afforded, but I would shy against...

    Vaccine Related Sarcoma

Sadly, it is looking like it is the injection itself, regardless of what is being given, that may cause the reaction. And even more sad is the fact that vets bully people into allowing their cats to get vaccines that we know should not be given.

Liver Inflammation - Milk Thistle, How Much??

Well, I found out what her enzymes are, but not the way I was hoping. Out of the blue Tabitha stopped eating Thursday evening. So, off to the emergency vet last nite. As a reminder, Tabitha is an inside feral. Getting her to the Dr is no small feat. Grabbing her by surprise breaks my heart...

    Question About Miralax Dosage

True, and as the body pull water out it triggers thirst. The body knows what it needs, so you drink. Like with diabetes the body tries to get rid of the high sugar level in the blood by peeing it out. Which makes the body feel dehydrated so it makes you drink more, that's why one of the first...

Liver Inflammation - Milk Thistle, How Much??

Thank you White Shadow. I may look into the FB page. Actually I have had a lot of experience with pancreatitis, but never (well, almost never) the liver issues. My Seamus often had bouts of pancreatitis, and that is generally the first thing my vet considers when any of my cats are under the...

    Question About Miralax Dosage

Miralax doesn't really have to be mixed with water. It pulls water from the body into the intestines to make the stool less dry and easier to pass. We either just mix it in the canned food (usually), or sometimes I put 1/4 tsp of water and a little bit of the food mixed in it and scoop it over...

Cat Not Eating/drinking & Nauseous Despite Meds - But Normal Test Results!

Ondansetron (zofran) is generally a good anti-nausea med to keep on hand. Cheaper than Cerenia too. And for appetite Cyproheptadine overall seems to have less side effects than Mitrazapine and works well in most cats. Just throwing those out there, fwiw.

Liver Inflammation - Milk Thistle, How Much??

Thank you. I will look that up . She is getting at least 1/4 tsp since I am putting it in most her meals so I feel better. Appreciate the referral. This is Tabitha in her heated thinking cup, and with her best bud OliverChuck .

Liver Inflammation - Milk Thistle, How Much??

My vet nixed the Ursodiol over Denamarin because her ALT is what was most critically elevated and Ursodiol is more for elevated ALP. Since milk thistle can be given with food and was not another pill I chose that for her hoping it does the trick to help with regeneration. This is the first...

Liver Inflammation - Milk Thistle, How Much??

Thanks for all the replies. To address some questions. Tabitha did have a FNA - fine needle aspirate, for diagnosis. So cholangiohepatitis is the diagnosis we got from that, that is what is causing the elevated enzymes. She occasionally gets a cerenia, zofran, ciproheptadine, gabapentin .But...

Liver Inflammation - Milk Thistle, How Much??

I know there have been some people on here whose cats have had liver disorders, I am specifically treating cholangiohepatitis, pancreatitis. Tabitha was diagnosed a month ago, but her liver enzymes were elevated the month before that when my vet pretty much was resigned to diagnosing her with a...

The Best Pill-taking Secret I Know...

I guess I will have to get some Gerber ham this weekend. Tabitha is on metronidazole twice a day, along with Pred and Baytril. We are at close to a month, and have another to go at least. Biggest problem, she is my feral. So I can't give her meds in any way other than she has to eat them. I...

    Hyperthyroidism

Fortunately it sounds like the hot dog trick worked! Right now I am using cheese as a "pill pocket" since my feral does not like actual pill pockets and is on long term antibiotics but I am keeping the hot dog idea in mind if she gets tired of cheese. I was just pointing out the need to have a...

    Hyperthyroidism

I would suggest you don't change doses of the med you give without your doctor's go-ahead, and if you are not comfortable with your doctor look for another one, but don't start changing treatments on your own. Your vet knows more about your cats than anyone other than you .The Felimazole is the...

Hoping Someone Else Has Dealt With This Too

13 certainly is not old for a cat .What kind of vet would even say this?!
