Not that I didn't have an award winning rant, myself, on this matter ... but, it was one of empathy; if people can't share similar experience to encourage dialogue on what seems to be a fairly common occurrence these days(lack or compassion/tolerance for pets and their people) nothing...
I just read this entire thread and think it should be published, everywhere.
Not only is it a testimony to what so many of us have gone through with misdiagnoses (and the vets who have made us all feel idiotic and malingering at one time or another) it's worth reading for the dry wit alone...

wow, a brown snake? That must have been traumatic. I bet people would be amazed to hear how harsh a brown snake's bite can be (and how many predators kitty's and humans can bump into in your fair country).
Pretty amazing that you're so young and looking after a house full of rescues with some...
... just one more thing, if you're comfortable stating your location, I'm sure there are others (including myself) who would be happy to help look into what's available to you for help with the kitten and also maybe trying to get some help for the mother and male.
I agree with StefanZ and Di and Bob.
The kitten was likely dropped in transportation (probably to a place where this tom couldn't get at her litter), she's is likely in heat, again, and although instinctively protective of her poor kittens, this male cat is a suitor and ... he will kill that...
