    Tortie comparison thread!

I have a mostly tortie cat, though she's got white on some of her chest, belly, and her socks. Her name is PJ (Penny Jane). We think she's about 13 years old, and she's about 12 pounds, last we checked. She has hyperthyroidism, so her weight has oscillated quite a bit as we've regulated her...

cardiac workup - what to expect?

Hi. So my special kitty has just turned extra special (more on his IBS in a thread coming soon). He was in for a dental, and the vet detected a heart murmur. She made everyone else listen to it to be sure (!), and then did an x-ray. She said Teddy has an enlarged heart and accompanying...

    Cat boogers? TMI - sorry!

I was hoping (well, not really, but now I don't feel so alone) that someone else had nasty baseboards! This is slightly off topic, but how in the world do you clean them? Teddy gets 1-2 courses of antibiotics a year as well, when it gets really out of control. He came from a 15 cat home where...

    Cat boogers? TMI - sorry!

I have a nasty booger kitty. Some of it is herpes related, and we keep it under control with lysine. The rest is seasonal allergies. Keeping the windows closed (as much as we all love having them open!) has done wonders.

    weight loss

I agree, it could be a medication issue. My PJ had lost 4 pounds, and it took a while to put it back on, mostly because we were giving her methimazole transdermally, and she just wasn't getting enough. We switched to liquid that we mix in her food, and had to adjust the dose 2-3 times before we...

Can your cat remove its own nails when stuck?

Teddy gets stuck on the couch or the bed blanket. He twists himself all up, and somehow, his back claws (he doesn't have front ones) manage to get stuck. He usually needs some sort of assistance, unless he gets up really quickly and just pulls himself out. I think he was declawed younger (it was...

    Cat meowing.....

I have a DSH tortie who does NOT shut up. I love it. I figured it was just part of her tortitude. Actually, we have found a few ways to quiet her down. Mostly, we've figured out a routine for her - after we wake up in the morning, my fiance' MUST pet her, first thing. That quiets and calms...

    Apologizing to meowmy

Teddy used to apologize all the time (mostly because before his IBS was under control, he would poop or throw up on the floor all the time). He wouldn't necessarily talk to us, and once we realized why he was having problem, we stopped scolding him and told him it was okay because he was sick...

    Scared of Thunder

My cats are different: PJ doesn't care. I think she'd sit and watch the storms out the window if we let her. Teddy used to be absolutely terrified of thunder. He would crawl under the bed for hours and not come out. Over time, it seems that he's gotten more used to it and isn't as scared, but...

    Dandruff solution?

Currently, she eats Wellness. She's eaten all kinds of food with us, and none have made the dandruff problem better. But the oils seem to do the trick. We also groom her regularly - something that the group we adopted her from seemed to think wasn't necessary for some reason...

Cat pees and poops on way to Vet Help!

Question - was this her first time leaving your mom's house since she was adopted? Since you said she's only had her for a year, I run under the assumption that she was vetted before being adopted and taken home, and that she's been fine since. This happened with my PJ when we first got her...
