Also, as far as the steroid injections go, my cat didn’t experience any side effects. He was probably around 4 months or so when we tried it initially. Like I said, it definitely worked, but wasn’t a solve for us because once it wore off, the cracking started again. We did 3 months of...
Hi! I tried a bunch of things - food allergies, litter, steroid injections, etc., but nothing cleared it up permanently. The steroid injections would work for the month, but once it was done, the cracking would start again. We never did testing for it because it’s expensive and required a skin...
UPDATE: in case anyone else’s cat has a similar issue, wanted to share an update. My vet gave him a steroid shot, and it has definitely cleared up the cracking paw pads. It’s been about 15 days since he got the steroids and his paws are a lot better, but the skin is still a little dry. No...
Hi there! I know your post was from a few years ago, but hoping you still see this. My vet believes that my kitty has the same thing, and he's going to do two rounds of steroid treatments. How has Fez been? Do you have any advice or experiences you can share? Will take any tips I can get. Thanks...
Hello! Thanks for your thoughts here, really appreciate it :) As far as litter goes, I did try switching brands and removing any fragrances. He’s using Fresh Step Clean Paws Unscented (which I personally love), but I haven’t tried switching to a non clay litter, which would probably be worth...
Hi there!
Wondering if anyone has any experience with extremely dry paw pads in cats? My kitten (8 months old) has extremely dry paw pads that flake and can even crack the skin if it gets bad enough. My vet directed me to Organic Paw Balm for Dogs and Cats and that definitely helps heal the paw...
Ugh, glad I’m not the only one. Do you remember how long it lasted for your kitten? The first bad flare up? I don’t know how much longer I can take seeing him this sick lol. And I’ve had soooo many people recommend baby food when it comes down to it, I’m going to pick some up at the store. Omg...
So interesting! I think that’s kind of how he reacted more favorably to me dropping little bits on his tongue with the syringe. He wouldn’t take from my fingers or the bowl, but he did from the syringe. They’re all quite peculiar lol. Thanks for sharing your tips!
Yes! Definitely do not attempt to push anything to their throats! They can easily aspirate and then you’re in big trouble. I was able to keep the syringe out of his mouth, he only licked the tip as I slowly let the food drip out, and he fortunately lapped it up. Thanks for reinforcing this!
Yesss, I heard that! I tried to get some this evening, but they didn’t have any at the drug store and a lot of places had closed since it’s a Sunday evening. I’m gonna grab some tomorrow. Thanks for the tip! :)
UPDATE: I found a way to get food/water in him and wanted to share in case it helps anyone else. I got unflavored pedialyte, a syringe, and I had salmon mousse from the pet store. I mixed them together and heated it for a few seconds, then filled the syringe. I wasn’t trying to shoot it in his...
Oh yes, I definitely will. I don’t plan on shooting it in his mouth at all, just dropping tiny drops inside his lip that hopefully he’ll swallow. Fingers crossed lol. Hope to have a good update soon.
Hi! No fever today, thank god. I called the hospital for today and they said he should be ok for now, but if he declines further to bring him back for IV. The pedialyte/baby food drip via syringe is a great idea - nutrients and hydration. Thank you!!
