Thanks for the replies! He settled in a bit today with the plastic cone, but when the soft one came we put that on and it seems much more comfortable. Also it still does the job of preventing him from reaching his incision--possibly better than the plastic did and it doesn't seem to press...

So Hugo has had some serious surgery [TMI incoming]. He had a stone obstructing his urethra that was lodged too tightly to push back into the bladder with a catheter (catheter couldn't pass it or budge it at all) and so the vet had to place an incision above it and from the best I can understand...

Hugo has had to have surgery to remove a stone lodged too firmly in his urethra, it couldn't be shifted with a catheter and would have ended his life without surgery. He's recovering now but the operation was more expensive than we were quoted and we had already spent so much on unsuccessful...

I've ordered him a softer, lighter cone from Amazon, arriving tomorrow. Reviews for the inflatable donuts said they didn't offer much protection for lower-body injuries so I went with a cone, but one that should be less obtrusive for him. I have some liquid painkiller he had prescribed earlier...

Well, he's not showing any improvement on the new medicine. Now he sits in the box for ages and nothing comes out but a dribble, and then he dribbles some drops on the floor when he gets out. He's going to have to go back to the vet tomorrow and I'm so worried.

It was my husband who went in with him so I'm getting only secondhand reports of what the vet said. I would hope that the catheter would be in conjunction with some other treatment because obviously we can't insert one every time he needs to empty his bladder. I guess the vet was thinking that...
