My new baby is Pippa which is short for Lady Philipa Cattington No, she isn't a registered cat of pedigree, it just seemed to fit her. She is kind of my second "real" cat....I had loads of cats growing up. All outdoor ones where the numbers grew, then tragedies befell from cars, etc and then there would be fewer but kittens would be born and the numbers grew again. Over seventeen years ago, I rescued a feral cat which I named Chili. She was a lovely dark tabby and I cherished her so. She was my first real cat, so to speak, that was all mine. She chose me from our other four family members and we had a wonderful life together. We were the best of friends and she taught me a lot. Sadly, after battling renal failure and hyperthyroidism for three years, my darling Chili passed away on 25 July 2018 at the age of 18 and some months. My daughter and I had already rescued feral Pippa and her daughter, the only survivor of her little litter of three. Pippa and I had formed a bond before she came indoors to live so about a week after my Chili died, Pippa started wanting to visit my bedroom and hang out with me a while. It got where her visits got longer and longer so when time came to have her spayed she was happy to spend her convalescence in my room for the two weeks. To be fair, she is only on day eight right now but doing well. She is a lovely and loving companion and whilst no cat could take my Chili's place, Pippa is a very good and dear companion. I think we will have a very good friendship! Her daughter, Freya, is now my daughter's cat and she is so adorable. A calico like her Mum and only after the fact did I find out how "miaow-y" a calico could be! Believe me, it was not nice when Pippa was in oestrus! She would howl for hours every night! Thankfully she is down to quiet murmurings now, ha ha! Well, that's us!
