With some people, it's winning a multi-million dollar lottery prize. But I can't count all of the horror stories of those who have done so, only to declare bankruptcy in a few years because they spent it all. Or losing family or 'friends' who think they are owed a share. Or people trying to scam...
Never once has he offered any assistance, and it's not like he can't. After all, he's a good 20 years younger than I am, but he's also dumber than a sack of hammers- no offense to hammers intended.
I have a neighbor like that. He takes zero care of his mower or snow blower, then comes to me to fix it. Right now, his lawn mower won't stay running, but I'm busy with the bathroom, plus running Michele around on her errands, so I can't look at it right now. Also, they have a raised deck on the...
For more years than I care to remember, I got up at 3a.m., left for work at 4, and started work at 5. I still wake up at around at 5 on most mornings, even though I've been retired for more than 7 years now.
I'm using mineral wool for insulation, as it has an R-15 rating vs. the R-11 fiberglass that was in there. Also, it is unaffected by moisture, is fireproof and mold resistant. And best of all, it isn't itchy!
Not yet, as it still is a work in progress, and even when finished there won't be all that much to see. The real improvements will be out of sight inside the walls; a new light fixture and towel holder being the sole exceptions.
On the farm, we had a large garden, plus some fruit trees, so we canned corn, beans, beets, stewed tomatoes, made green tomato relish, made applesauce and strawberry preserves, canned plums, peaches, and pears, and, on occasion, meat. Our root cellar shelves were loaded with pint and quart Mason...
It's just going to be drywall- no tile in this one. I am going to put in different lighting, though. As this is just a powder room, and only four by six feet, there's not a whole lot to show. What whoever built this thing did was enclose what used to be a rear porch on the house, and it was a...
Nah, it's a regular PITA, but two of the walls are done, I'm working on the third, and the fourth has to wait a bit due to outside events not related to the reno. I may be old, but I'm not that decrepit..........yet.
I only knew my paternal grandmother. She was born in 1889, while my paternal grandfather was born in 1884, and died two years before I was born. Both of my maternal grandparents were gone by the time I came around.
Our first cat was one that we 'inherited' from Michele's parents with their passing. They had named him Spooky, as he was a shorthaired tuxedo who had been dumped out in the country as a kitten, then found his way to their farm. He was nearly 20 when he came to us, and 22 when he crossed the Bridge.
That's okay; I have seen and photographed two eclipses previously- one in 1970 in Charleston SC, a total, and another, an annular eclipse, in 1994 here in WNY- so it's not like I was missing a once-in-a-lifetime event.
