Anxious about new cat - any advice??

Update - it turns out the diarrhea was from the food not stress. My vet put him on a probiotic powder and some digestive care food and he has been pooping normally ever since! Now I think his gastro issues must be why he was surrendered by the previous owner. His pooping outside the box when he...

Newly adopted cat peed in my shoe and pooped away from litterbox

Update - had him checked by my own vet and the diarrhea was from the food! She switched him to some digestive care products and gave a course of probiotic powder. He is pooping normally now! Not sure who is happier about it, him or me :)

Newly adopted cat peed in my shoe and pooped away from litterbox

Thank you! I think you're right about it not being stress-related. I made an appointment for him to see the vet tomorrow. My own vet not the one the rescue place uses. I found out today their vet did not actually do a fecal test on him even though I requested it! They just gave him another...

Anxious about new cat - any advice??

Ok thanks! Yes he has access to lots of fresh water and seems to be drinking quite a bit. And his appetite is good. I forgot to mention he had to have liquid pain medication for a few days after the surgery too - yesterday was his last dose. So maybe that messed up his system as well...

Newly adopted cat peed in my shoe and pooped away from litterbox

Thank you so much! He actually had to go back to the vet for a 2nd surgery as he managed to lick off the stitches from when he got neutered. So there was a deep bleeding ulceration in his scrotum that they had to sew up. He had to stay overnight at the vet's and then a night in foster care...

Anxious about new cat - any advice??

Thank you so much. That makes sense about the hormones and marking my shoes! We had another setback as he somehow managed to lick off the stitches from his neutering surgery causing a bleeding ulceration in his scrotum. So he had to go back and have a 2nd surgery to close it up! Not only that...

Newly adopted cat peed in my shoe and pooped away from litterbox

Just adopted a 1 year old cat and I think I'm as stressed out as he is! Any insight on why he would deliberately seek out my shoe to pee in? And then poop on the opposite side of the room to the litterbox (all of this right in front of me while I am watching him in disbelief)?? I've only had...

Anxious about new cat - any advice??

Thank you for this thread! I too am having negative feelings that I did not expect to have after adopting a new cat 3 days ago. He is having a really hard time and I'm realizing how naive I was because my old cat adjusted right away. To clarify I only have the new cat now - my previous cat...
