Another remedy, before or until you can get the cat to the vet, is Murphy's Oil Soap. My vet recommended this to me, and it worked great! It took two baths, but the smell was completely gone. Of course, you have to be careful not to get it in their eyes or ears, and be sure to rinse completely.
