    Slow weight loss

@white shadow : Those values are the guaranteed analysis, which is not the same as dry matter basis. Apologies on not sending a link. There is a PDF to download from Weruva, which I attached if that helps. @three4rd: She had dental surgery to remove a small mass/growth along her gums. I believe...

    Slow weight loss

I am looking at the Weruva Wx Chicken Puree. As fed it is 81.7% moisture and 11.27% protein. To calculate the dry matter basis, 100 - 81.7 = 18.3 dry. Then the protein calculation would be 11.27 / 18.3 = 61% protein. You can download the full nutritional info for all the Wx formulas. They all...

    Slow weight loss

Yep! I've read about the dry matter basis and run the calculation myself. It matches what is shown on Tanya's page - the Weruva Wx is about 60% protein DMB. Pretty impressive. Thanks for the insights though!

    Slow weight loss

Thanks for the suggestions! Yes, I realize that many suggest to continue feeding normal protein. However, even Tanya's CKD website suggests that be around 35% and believes the Weruva WX to be a little too high at 60%. To be sure though, there isn't a magic number and it will be different for...

    Slow weight loss

Hello! My cat Juliette is almost 18 years old. In the last year, she has started to have some health issues crop up - including diagnosis with hyperthyroidism (March 2023) and early stages of kidney disease (Sept 2023). We've addressed the hyperthyroidism with medication, and her thyroid...

Purchasing CKD/renal/kidney support diet by the can?

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm actually okay paying for 2-3 cases as a one time expense to find my cats preference, but I don't want the food to go to waste. I had thought I could donate to a shelter but I'm not sure they would want prescription food. You mentioning the other customers gave me...

Purchasing CKD/renal/kidney support diet by the can?

My 17 year old kitty has recently begun showing signs of chronic kidney disease, and our veterinarian has suggested we try switching to a prescription diet that supports kidney function. The vet kindly provided us a few cans of Hills Science Diet k/d to try, and said if my cat enjoyed it they...

    Senior cat litter box

Hello! Curious if anyone would have suggestions on a litter box set up for a senior kitty that is accidentally missing the box? I have a large litter box that is high on three sides and lower on one side. This way my cat only enters and exits on one side of the box, which has her walking over a...

Promoting quality of life in an elderly cat

Thank you all for your suggestions. I think I've settled that we'll continue the hyperthyroid medication instead of opting for the I-131 treatment with anesthesia. We do use the Cosequin supplement and I have built steps for her to help her reach her favorite places, but I like the suggestion of...

    Hyperthyroidism Help!

My cat was also diagnosed with hyperthyroidism earlier this year. We initially started with the medication as pills, but switched to the transdermal formulation simply for ease of use. My vet has their own pharmacy they use, but I have even seen the transdermal formulation on Chewy.com if your...

Promoting quality of life in an elderly cat

My beautiful ragdoll, Juliette, is 17 years old. She has been relatively healthy throughout her life, aside from a few dental extractions in her later years and some likely arthritis. However, her age is beginning to become fairly apparent. She is my first and only cat I have ever owned, and I...

    Hyperthyroidism Experience?

Thanks everyone for the suggestions! The felimazole we have says not to cut or crush the pill, but I never thought to try wrapping it in a bit of cream cheese so I may just have to give that a try. She does like cheese - although she's never had cream cheese. Hopefully she thinks it is a tasty...

    Hyperthyroidism Experience?

Hello! My 17 year old ragdoll was just diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and I was curious to hear others experiences with either the medication (pill or transdermal ear gel) or I-131 radioactive iodine therapy. We have opted to start with Felimazole medication, a pill administered twice a day...

    Pill size?

Hello, My kitty is currently needing clindamycin antibiotic following a tooth extraction. The vet originally prescribed a liquid version, but I'm sure it doesn't taste pleasant and we've been ending up with more medicine on mommy than actually in kitty's mouth. I've had much better luck in the...

Pain, difficulty eating one week after multiple tooth extraction

Thank you all so much for your advice. I think today we have turned a corner! Today she ate about 70% of her food all on her own, with just pets and praise (no syringe assist), which is a huge improvement from earlier this week. I also didn't see a need to administer pain medication. I think...
