Resident cat and new kitten interactions

Just wanted to pop back and thank you all for the replies. Thanks, we're keeping a close eye on them. I would have preferred an older kitten too, but here in the UK 8 weeks seems to be the norm unless you go through a professional breeder, and in those cases the waiting list can be years...

Resident cat and new kitten interactions

Hi, all! We recently brought home a 9-week-old kitten, Soybean. We already have a 2-year-old neutered male, Toby, and I'm really hoping someone can shed light on what we've seen so far with the intros. They met face to face on day 3 because there had been no hissing, growling, avoidance at the...

    Uk cat food advice needed

My cat really likes the Purina Gourmet Nature's Creations. As it's the same overall brand maybe he would take to it?

    Slower eating + toy obsession

Hi, all! I'm coming up to 2 months with my new cat, Toebean, and as a hyper-alert new cat parent I'm curious what kind of behavioural changes I'll start to see as he settles in according to the 3-3-3 rule. One thing I've noticed is he's starting to walk away from his food sooner. There's one...

This feels like a custody battle

Such an awkward situation to be in! My friend experienced the exact same thing. Here in the UK, keeping a cat that comes by your house is 100% theft of property, regardless of the cat's preference, no apparently about it. It's really hard when you get attached to an animal like that and they...

Kitten acts differently when 4 yo comes back from school

So glad the timing worked out today and your daughter is able to enjoy some quiet time. :) Kittens really do have so much energy, but if you can try and develop a routine, it will learn when the playtimes are and sort of adjust its energy levels around you. And the kitten stage doesn't last...

Kitten acts differently when 4 yo comes back from school

Also had a thought — when is the kitten getting fed? Ideally, a good play session is followed by a meal. Then they groom and go to sleep. A few hours later, they do it all again. Could you shorten the play session between your kitten and your daughter — an hour tops, say — feed the kitten, and...

Kitten acts differently when 4 yo comes back from school

I'm sorry you're dealing with this. :( It's hard enough getting a kitten without added pressure from family members. Two weeks is not a very long time at all for a new pet to settle in or for you to all find your feet with the new routine. The kitten is probably used to playing rough with...

    Wet food in the UK

Good luck! We had no trouble transitioning our kitty onto different wet foods; he eats a different brand and flavour every meal. Switching the dry kibble too fast causes tummy upsets but hopefully you won't have this problem! Don't be surprised if your kitty turns her nose up at your carefully...

    Spoilt kibble? (with a picture)

A lot of customer services will take a complaint seriously even if there's nothing wrong with the product. It doesn't cost them much to do it and will help retain your loyalty and is good for PR. Our local pet shop will take an opened bag of perfectly fine food back if my cat doesn't like it...

    Sad Cat

My cat was lethargic and barely ate for 9 hours after his jabs. I would say as long as he's perking up now, this was why.

What's your kitty's favourite food/What brand do you recommend?

I can recommend Canagan in the UK! They do pouches and tins for all lifestages; our cat prefers the tins. It's literally shredded meat and broth, nothing else except the usual things to make it a complete food. It's pricy, but really good for a treat and/or sensitive tummies.

What Do You Feed Your Cat?

Whether the previous posters are American is neither here nor there; people feed their cats well all over the world. It's just a fascinating topic. Growing up, the family cat ate store brand kibble. There was absolutely no question of sourcing supplements like bonito flakes, egg yolks and...

What Do You Feed Your Cat?

Toebean gets: Breakfast at 8am: a can/pouch of wet Lunch at 12pm: 10g kibble Tea at 4pm: 10g kibble Supper at 8pm: a can/pouch of wet The kibble is MORE Cat Chicken which was supplied by his vet. I may switch to another brand but he seems to really like it, and I'm happy with the ingredient...
