Question... SMALL OPENING where she was "fixed"

Hi Rachel, I only do housecalls for acupuncture, herbs and food therapy right now. I don't have a clinic and don't provide routine care. I can give you a referral to someone who does.  Yes, I'm on Facebook under naturalalternativesvet Sorry, they won't let me post any links here. Tabitha

Question... SMALL OPENING where she was "fixed"

Hey, guess what- I'm in Phoenix, too. I don't provide routine care, but if you want to call me I can suggest a couple of options close to your home. You can find my web site and phone number by Googling Tabitha Thompson DVM. Tabitha

    How long does ringworm last?

I think it depends on a lot of factors... a small lesion in a single cat, treated with antifungals and very diligent environmental decontamination could be cleared up in 4-8 weeks. The spores can survive in the environment for something like 18 months, though so make sure you decontaminate a...

Question... SMALL OPENING where she was "fixed"

I agree, just from looking at the photo, it doesn't appear to be a serious problem... HOWEVER, most vets or spay/neuter clinics will gladly recheck things like this and often for no fee. Better to get it checked, it's part of what you pay for with the surgery, in my humble opinion! Tabitha

    clavamox

You should call your vet about the diarrhea! Clavamox CAN cause diarrhea, but so can many other things. If your cat has a serious infection, they may want to switch to a different antibiotic. Give them a call... Tabitha

Spay on a 4 month old kitten with Pectus excavatum

You might consider waiting until the kitten is older-- maybe closer to a year if you can tolerate estrus. Hopefully, she would have an endotracheal tube in place to protect her airway and provide assisted respiration if needed during the anesthesia. You might ask the vet about that because not...

    Having trouble administering oral Buprenorphine

Wow, that sounds like an unpleasant situation. You know you're trying to help your kitty, but she must not quite understand that :).  I wonder if giving the buprenorphine subcutaneously with a tiny needle and syringe would work better? I'm thinking insulin syringe size. Lots of people do it...

At home euthanasia vs. vet's office

@Red Top Rescue  In my post above, I mentioned sedation with an injection in the muscle or under the skin. I think maybe something was lost in translation as I was recommending sedation, with or without an IV catheter. I'm not too far from 50 myself, but I take it as a compliment that you're...

    Dandruff on raw?

@EmandJee  Hi, yes I'm a vet. I do have a FB page, Twitter, and website I regularly post on. I'm not allowed to post a link here but if you Google Tabitha Thompson DVM you should find the web site. I understand what you're saying about feeding a raw diet. I'm not here to talk you out of it...

    Dandruff on raw?

@LDG  Oh, sorry if that was confusing. I would try digestive enzymes whether the food is cooked or raw. However, raw food is said to require more energy to digest than cooked food. Cooked food has already been broken down a little bit by cooking. That can be good if you have weak digestion, but...

    Dandruff on raw?

OK, this may be a little out of left field, but in traditional Chinese veterinary medicine/food therapy raw food and fish/fish oil are all very rich and moist foods. Depending on the cat's overall makeup, it may be a little too "damp." This can lead to greasiness. I wonder if decreasing the...

Food Sensitivities or Allergies after Switching to Raw Feeding

Yes! I agree with LDG... I believe that food sensitivity should not be a reason to DECREASE the number of foods fed or cause one to go on a search for that one perfect food. Food sensitivity is NOT NORMAL. It's OK to feed a limited menu for the short term, but for the long term, fixing the...

At home euthanasia vs. vet's office

More than size, the general state of health has an influence on how well veins stand out. Elderly, sickly pets are often more difficult to find/get the needle into a vein. That's why even without an IV catheter in place, it's nice to have them heavily sedated. By giving the sedative injection...

Comment by 'furbabyvet' in article 'Raw Food For Cats - Interview With Pet Nutritionist Dr. Martha Cline'

Thanks for this informative interview. I support the use of raw diets for cats, but let's not overlook that part of the reason these kinds of diets are beneficial is not just what IS in them, but also what's NOT in them. There's no reason one couldn't lightly cook raw meat to quell the concerns...

    Cat question - FLUTD

The "farting" noises (lol) may be the sound of gas escaping his anus. It makes me wonder if the antibiotic might be upsetting his GI tract. I'd call the vet about that, too! Tabitha
