    Perfect Shelter Cat--But Neutered "Late"?

Hello, friends! I just wanted to give you all a quick update: the perfect new kitty, Michu, was scooped up and adopted from the shelter before I could get there after work yesterday. But thank you all so much for your kindness, anecdotes, and support! Take care, Friend's Friend / Dyl.

    Perfect Shelter Cat--But Neutered "Late"?

Thank you so much for your input, @vince! I appreciate it, friend! It's very reassuring to hear all these stories of male cats neutered "late" (or, you know, beyond my local shelter's bog-standard 2 months for the wee ones) and being just fine. As for this dude's litterbox mishap--that's very...

    Perfect Shelter Cat--But Neutered "Late"?

Hey again, @di and bob! Yes, setting him up in a room by himself for a day or two is definitely the plan! I did the same with Friend-o, just to make sure he knew where the litterbox was, haha. The good news with this guy is he doesn't seem stressed by much of anything. I met him in an exam room...

    Perfect Shelter Cat--But Neutered "Late"?

@di and bob--thanks so much for the speedy input, friend! I really appreciate it! I hadn't even thought about the possibility of his accident being the day of surgery, although I'm not sure the shelter sends their kitties to foster the day-of. (They don't adopt-out the day a cat's been spayed /...

    Perfect Shelter Cat--But Neutered "Late"?

Hello, friends! I hope this post finds everyone well. It's been a while. It's been two years since Friend passed, and I've slowly (and very pickily, for better or worse) been looking for another companion. Yesterday I met the perfect cat at the shelter--a real snuggle-bug who just wants to...

Chronic Health Issues / Quality Of Life / "when?"

Hello, 1 bruce 1. :) Yeah, I'm really wary of purchasing through online retailers; the upshot of in-person contacts is that presumably if word-of-mouth is that they're good, then they're good. As for my vet's response . . . She works in a tiny private clinic--actually, she's the first vet to be...

Chronic Health Issues / Quality Of Life / "when?"

Hey Feeby, Nah, the food's a non-issue. ^_^ At least insofar as his hyperesthesia is concerned. It does add a hitch to the whole "Diet might help" situation, but I've also read of people for whom changing their cat's diet doesn't work, so . . . I'm in favor of keeping that even-keeled, and...

Chronic Health Issues / Quality Of Life / "when?"

Thank you both so much! <3 Apologies for my delayed response . . . In no particular order: does anyone know how to get ahold of CBD oil? My vet mentioned it but added "I'm not really supposed to tell you about it." (I know it doesn't have THC in it, so it's for the "chill" factor, not the high...

Chronic Health Issues / Quality Of Life / "when?"

Hello, friends. Thank you both. <3 Jem--thank you for your response. My vet is fantastic; she's seen us for free before (when what she saw us for would have cost in the hundreds of dollars) . . . She's done everything she can, I think. Even she's got a boss to answer to, at the end of the day...

Chronic Health Issues / Quality Of Life / "when?"

I'm so sorry for my prickles, friend. I know this topic raises a lot of alarm bells for people, and unfortunately, yes, I do know that there are folks out there who rush to euthanize their pets at the first sign of trouble, or who blame their pets, or any number of things. The truth is that even...

Chronic Health Issues / Quality Of Life / "when?"

Thank you for the reply. With all due respect, while I mentioned external stresses, my mental health / anxiety is actually halfway decent, considering the circumstances, and unfortunately I'm doing everything I can (in conjuncture with a therapist) to keep the pieces together. And obviously I...

Chronic Health Issues / Quality Of Life / "when?"

Greetings, friends; I hope everyone is well. I'm writing because there's a lot of external stuff going on in my personal life, which is making this situation all the more difficult, and I'm looking for a bit of guidance. For those who've had cats with chronic illnesses that aren't, ostensibly...

    Hyperesthesia And Long-term Gabapentin

The thing with my guy is he's super sensitive to stimulation in weird ways. I've tried snapping fingers, clapping hands, none of that distracted him . . . it's like I have a very, very small window in which to distract him with a laser pointer. (Catnip's also on my "things to get" list.) The...

    Hyperesthesia And Long-term Gabapentin

I've also found this to be true in Friend's case, thankfully. I bought a laser-pointer and distracting him with that when he starts the "routine" of an episode, it does seem to take his mind off of things and--as you said--a full-blown attack doesn't happen. I'm incredibly grateful for that...

    Hyperesthesia And Long-term Gabapentin

Hello, friend! ^_^ I personally didn't notice any adverse reaction to Gabapentin in my guy--and he's known for having bad reactions to meds. Basically he was just super stoned and happy on the Gaba, and I know it's widely prescribed. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that it takes the edge off...
