Struggling to find the right litter for a litter robot

I've been using Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat Ultra successfully with the older model of litter robot. I also had some issues with smell leaking from the waste drawer and what helped me was adding an odor-absorbing gel pack to soak up the stink in there (I use this specific one). There's enough room...

    Automatic Cat Feeders

Although my cat doesn't start wailing at 5am for breakfast anymore, he has learned the routine of me washing out the feeder and refilling it at 4pm every day (even though the next meal doesn't come out until 2 hours later...). If I'm late on it, he'll start nagging me as if he's afraid I'm going...

    Automatic Cat Feeders

I've used this one (Cat Mate C500) to great success. However, if you plan to put 24 hours' worth of meals in at a time, I'd recommend buying two additional ice packs so that you can keep one set in the freezer while the other is in the feeder. That way it's easy to switch them out when refilling...

New Foster Not Eating Or Using Litter Box!

Apologies for dropping off the radar! Here's an update on Blackjack: My grandma was released from the rehab facility after about a month and was able to go home with in-house care. After she had a week to get back on her feet, Blackjack went back home with her. Since being back with my...

How To Tell If Your Cat Will Enjoy The Show Experience?

He used to cry a lot when he would have to be in his carrier for vet appointments, but now that he knows it's temporary, he just waits it out. When I moved to a new apartment, he did cry a little on the drive over since it was about 1.5 hours. It seems like he would be fine if I could habituate...

How To Tell If Your Cat Will Enjoy The Show Experience?

Thanks, you guys! I'm going to give the "judge handling practice" thing a try and see how he does. I'll have to look up some articles on how to groom a cat for a show, as the only thing I can think of are making sure his eyes and ears are clean, giving him a comb, and trimming his nails!

How To Tell If Your Cat Will Enjoy The Show Experience?

Hi everyone! I visited my first cat show this weekend (CFA) and had a blast. I didn't realize people could show their non-pedigreed cats in the Household class, and I'd love to try it out with my boy, Spooky. However, I want to make sure that Spooky would have a good time and I'm not quite sure...

New Foster Not Eating Or Using Litter Box!

I've solved the mystery of the "hissing while we try to walk" issue! Blackjack is afraid of pajama pants! It seems to be something about the way the bottoms flap around my feet - if I roll up my pants, she's completely fine. My boyfriend and I wear pajama pants in the house pretty regularly, so...

What To Do About Elderly Mother In-law's Cat?

I'm in a very similar situation to you - fostering my grandmother's 5-year old solitary cat for an indefinite amount of time. While it's been very hard seeing a cat unused to any sort of change try and adjust to living in my apartment bedroom, my grandmother is so much happier knowing that her...

New Foster Not Eating Or Using Litter Box!

No, of course not! I have a baby gate and everything, I was planning to do the scent swapping, door cracked, whole 9 yards. But I'm starting to think that's just wishful thinking and she's just not a cat that can handle other cats (which is fine, it just means I have to deal some minor...

New Foster Not Eating Or Using Litter Box!

Ok, I'll try to hold off vacuuming for a few more days. The hard thing is that my boyfriend and I seem to be slightly allergic to her (she's probably producing WAY more dander than she should be due to the state of her coat and stress, also) and we keep waking up with stuffy noses and itchy...

New Foster Not Eating Or Using Litter Box!

That's a great idea! I've also been giving her treats only when I'm standing up so she starts to make a positive association. Also... SHE ATE LAST NIGHT, WOOHOO! A little of the wet and a little of the dry! She pooped in her litter box, too, which is great because she's notorious for pooping...

New Foster Not Eating Or Using Litter Box!

The Feliway diffuser (the Multicat one) is officially installed - fingers crossed, everyone! It's weird how Blackjack swings between extremes, it must be the stress. When I first walk into the room, she hisses every time I take a step. Once I pet her a little and talk to her, though, she flips...

New Foster Not Eating Or Using Litter Box!

PROGRESS! Thanks everyone for all the tips and encouragement, I actually have some kitten food left over from my previous foster litter so I'm going to try that out on her. I actually got her to eat a few kibbles just now! I was in the room with her for about 30 mins, I kept smearing wet food...

    Grooming Does A Mitt Work?

I have that exact one, and it's the only thing my foster will let me use on her. I get a fist-sized ball of fur off her every day with it, it's awesome! She's one of those cats that really leans into petting and adores being touched, so if anyone has a cat like that I highly recommend it.
