At what point does one realize it's time to let go of their fur baby? I'm not ready to yet.

When I first heard of Megacolon (not long after I adopted Pumpkin) it scared me because I thought that if his issues persisted, he may one day have to deal with it. Sorry if I sound panicky, I am worried sick about him. I know how painful severe constipation can be due to my having it really...

They will at least do xrays when I take him on Wednesday. I'm not sure what else they will do. Maybe an enema?

At what point does one realize it's time to let go of their fur baby? I'm not ready to yet.

Pumpkin is about 15 years old, I've had him for just over 11 years and adopted him when we were still living in Pulaski NY (North of Syracuse) when someone abandoned him, Transitioning from being an outdoor cat only to indoor has been challenging for him. Pumpkin used to poop at least twice...

I should have been more clear in my post. I'm worried that megacolon might be what's wrong Not knowing is driving me crazy and I am literally losing sleep over this. I feel helpless. I'm doing all I can and it feels like it's not enough. I hope you are right that I'm overthinking this.

At what point does one realize it's time to let go of their fur baby? I'm not ready to yet.

I had a conversation a little while ago with one of the vets at Pumpkin's clinic. We were going over his medical hx, most notably the constipation issue. Somehow we wandered into the subject of having to let go of our pets. I told her I am not ready and she reminded me of how old he was and...

My cat's constipation is getting worse & I have no way to get him to the vet

I had another talk with one of his vets at that clinic and it was agreed that for now, he will remain on 1/3 tsp of MIralax twice daily, along with his increased Laxatone and Pepcid a/c. I am a nervous wreck about his appt on Wednesday. I am scared.

My cat's constipation is getting worse & I have no way to get him to the vet

Here's an update - I saw two small pieces of poop this morning and then reached out to Vet Triage, a veterinary website recommended by Pumpkin's vet. He had one appointment with them before. Good news is he's not having an emergency yet, and his medicine is being increased. His Miralax...

My cat's constipation is getting worse & I have no way to get him to the vet

Lactulose is totally different. Laxatone is a gel whereas Lactulose is a very sticky liquid that my cat - no matter what flavour the compounding pharmacy gave us - would not like. I never had to syringe anything into his mouth. I'm afraid that I will mess up and he'll aspirate it, then...

My cat's constipation is getting worse & I have no way to get him to the vet

I always thought Hartz products were cheap because many years ago (I'm 61 now) my brother and I had gerbils and we would oftentimes get Hartz products for them. Over the years, long after they died, i'd go by the pet section and see Hartz products that didn't seem to be as good as they used to...

My cat's constipation is getting worse & I have no way to get him to the vet

But how did you give it to him after it was dissolved in water? If by syringe, knowing my cat he would go ballistic and possibly inhale it. He's a picky eater. What if he doesn't finish the wet food? There's one idea but I don't know if this would work. Usually Pumpkin loves a little bit of...

My cat's constipation is getting worse & I have no way to get him to the vet

The vet approved that method of giving him the Miralax but what I've been doing these past couple of days is adding water to the Miralax then mixing it with the Laxatone and Pepcid A/C. I put it on his paws a couple of hours ago. He wasn't happy but cleaned off most of it. To encourage him to...

My cat's constipation is getting worse & I have no way to get him to the vet

I posted a thread recently about this and his use of new Corelle water bowls. He likes them now and is not having any problems drinking. However, his constipation persists and I am getting worried. This morning I found a piece of poop in his box that was about an inch in length. He's eating...

Black residue on new stainless steel cat bowls / constipation issues

Pumpkin was prescribed 1/4 tsp of MIralax twice a day. It's mixed with a crushed antacid pill and mixed in his Laxatone. Ideally, both doses s/b 6-8 hours apart but if his tummy slows down, I drop it down to about 5 or 5 1/2 hours between both doses. Sometimes he will cooperate, sometimes he...

Black residue on new stainless steel cat bowls / constipation issues

My cat's vet and I have discussed how to give it to him. She knows that I mix the Miralax with his Laxatone and antacid pill (crushed), then I put it on my finger and he licks it off. Someone here suggested that I use a syringe but knowing him, that would make things much worse. The Correlle...

Black residue on new stainless steel cat bowls / constipation issues

The vet and I had a long discussion about this and she knows how I administer the Miralax. It is mixed in with his Laxatone and a crushed antacid pill. He then licks it off my finger. I tried doing it differently....like having him lick it off a plate or a spoon but he just won't do that...
