My cats both like skim milk and other dairy products as treats, and it's never had adverse effects. But I've read that some cats may have problems with dairy products.
The blood does sound like a worm or other parasite, and probably has nothing to do with the milk.

I usually get them a helium balloon that says "Happy Birthday" on it. They sometimes like to play with the string.
