How long does it take mirataz to work?

Hi all, Nishi is in year three of her IBD diagnosis and has been doing well with budesonide and novel protein foods until about three months ago when she lost interest in novel protein foods. After talking to some folks in my IBD group, I switched her to Fancy Feast and that seemed to really...

    Cat IBD

My 13yo Nishi was diagnosed with IBD about a year ago. We did all diagnostic testing EXCEPT for intestinal biopsy because 1) it is expensive and 2) my vet said he would treat IBD and lymphoma the same way, at least at first. As I understand it, if all the usual tests have ruled out everything...

Proviable Forte paste--can I keep the extra?

I saw the temperature part on the packaging and I don't think it was really "sealed" so that's why I wondered. Hopefully we won't need it again, but I'd hate for it to go to waste OR have to pay for it again. Thanks for finding that!

Proviable Forte paste--can I keep the extra?

Nishi had a recent bout of diarrhea and the vet gave us a Proviable Forte kit that came with a tube of paste. There is 15ml in the tube and we only needed 6ml of it. Can I keep the rest in case she needs it again? It doesn't expire until next year and I hate to waste it if it will stay good.

    Indoor only cats

I live in NYC and have been in the same building for 11+ years. There has been a colony of cats living down below my window the entire time. (My block has a row of restaurants and I assume the cats are "working," as they are all big and fat and sleek.) Every day around the same time they gather...

Cat crying nonstop because of moved furniture

I had a cat that would freak out every time I cleaned "too much"--ie moving furniture to sweep and vacuum and that sort of thing. Feliway did help, but I basically just had to let her ride it out until she calmed down.

Affording all wet - so confused on quality/price?

I buy a more expensive grain-free dry food that Nishi likes and has access to most of the time. But the majority of her diet is wet and I alternate Friskies and Fancy Feast with any of the more expensive food that happens to be on sale. I rotate the on-sale-more-expensive brands with the others...

6 months later, Fancy Feast apparently 'sucks'

Nishi regularly turns up her nose at food that she normally would scarf. Tuna: terrific on Tuesday, never again on Wednesday. Beef: spectacular on Sunday, never again on Monday. I've had to try a lot of different flavors and brands with her over the years. Another of my cats refused to touch any...

Took Nishi to the vet, now she's mad and I have to figure out how to medicate her

I didn't even think to ask about compounding, so everything is separate in its original form and taste. The proviable is going okay. The paste isn't her favorite, but she does lick it up eventually if I put it on her food. And she's had the powder (capsules) before and it fine with that. The...

Took Nishi to the vet, now she's mad and I have to figure out how to medicate her

Nishi has been having diarrhea the past week, so we saw the vet today. They did all the things. They took blood, urine, and stool samples. They cleaned out her ears and did a culture. They gave her sub-q fluids because she was dehydrated. It turns out she has an ear infection, so now I have to...

    Rabies booster?

Whoops, ignore that. I didn't see the last part about the prescription meds. I think it's standard policy to require regular visits to maintain a prescription.

    Rabies booster?

After my cat's first set of vaccinations as a kitten, my Texas vet didn't want to see her again unless she became injured or ill. Because she was 100% indoors, he believed that leaving our home was a bigger health risk than staying home. When I moved to New York, our new vet had the same policy...

    Cats only answer to me??

I have one cat now, but when her big sister was still alive, neither were particularly vocal with my former partner. I discuss things with my cats, explain what I'm doing, announce the flavor of their meals, say their names a lot--and my partner didn't. I think cats have preferences and I think...
