Good news for Froggy today: the pathology results came back on his tumor, and it was NOT malignant. I'm still confident that removing it was the right choice because it was making it harder for him to eat, but I'm relieved it wasn't cancer.
Thanks for asking! :) Froggy has done amazingly well. His recovery has been very smooth. He hasn't even had pneumonia, which was pretty much assumed he would get - the preventative antibiotics the vet gave him seemed to do the trick. So far so good!
His name is... Froggy. ;)
Froggy has been...
Odd experience today: I found a cat in my kitchen.
It wasn't my cat.
Turns out it belongs to the neighbors and got in through plumbing intake, but it was pretty startling.
Thanks for the well-wishes! I just got a call that Froggy came through surgery without complications. They removed the growth from his mouth and were even able to neuter him while he was under. Recovery may be a little rocky still, but so far it's all really good news! :grouphug:
My kitten is currently having surgery to remove a mass in his mouth. I'm really anxious about it because any type of surgery is very high risk for him, but I trust his vet and am hoping for the best.
Thanks, I'm familiar with that info but I'm just not sure how it applies to Froggy. He clearly isn't in good general health, but it also should (I think?) be clear that his issue is the result of a deformity rather than something contagious. His enlarged esophagus is noticeable enough that a vet...
Thanks for the suggestions! :) Congenital megaesophagus is quite rare in cats, and the degree of severity of his megaE is something none of the vets who have looked at his case have ever seen, so I really want to get his DNA on the record to try to help other cats, especially since he doesn't...
I already know the basics of traveling between the US and Canada with cats (I lived in Canada when I got Zephyr and Maisie and brought them back with me to the US,) so you don't need to take the time to explain those things, but I have a couple of specific questions that concern the difference...
Does anybody have any advice on a genetic testing service people should use? I would like to get my foster kitten into the data pool because he has an extremely rare hereditary condition, and while contributing his DNA can't help him directly, I hope that information might play a small part in...
I don't have pet insurance, for several reasons. Pre-existing conditions typically aren't covered, most plans require you to pay upfront and be reimbursed only if your claim is approved, routine preventative care is not covered, and many (not all) plans have a limit-per-condition on what they...
Nothing definitive from the vet yet. Due to Froggy's medical situation, he is only able to receive anaesthesia in situations that are life or death because his risk is so high, so the vet has to take a more conservative treatment approach than she normally would. We're trying a week of...
I'm pretty sure those two things are separate items on the bill, and the poster just made a typo trying to write "as is." That's why they seem unrelated. :)
I'm having another issue with my foster kitten that seems unrelated to his megaesophagus. Today I noticed a growth along Froggy's gumline by his molars. Unfortunately I couldn't manage a picture of it (I only have two hands and he was uncooperative ;)) but it's about the size of a lentil and the...
