    Dan The Man

Some of you may have seen the other thread where I chronicled the last few days of Dan's long life. Now he's crossed the bridge and this is his story, as far as I know it. We first met him in 2006. We often walk to the centre of the city where we live, for shopping, a restaurant or a bar...

    18-years-old Dan

And say Hi to Muffin, Snuffly, Sooty and Charlie for us. We'll see you all again someday.

    18-years-old Dan

It's over. He went downhill very fast Sunday. We sat with him all night and took him to the vet first thing in the morning. They were very kind and broke their virus lockdown rules to let us be with him until the end. Farewell big fella.

    18-years-old Dan

Thanks for your kind replies. Here he is in happier days. He's much weaker today, curled up on the sofa dozing but no longer eating or drinking. I think he'll be going to the vet in the morning.

You Know You Care More About Your Cats Than About Yourself When . . .

England are playing Ireland on the TV (rugby, it's a British thing, it's A Very Big Deal). The elderly fur baby curls up on the sofa right in front of the TV. You go sit on the other sofa and watch the big game at a 90-degree angle. This happened today.

    18-years-old Dan

Dan (the Man) is 18. He has heart disease and kidney disease. His vet wants to put him to sleep but we have refused because, although he is fading away before our eyes, he is not in any pain or distress and spends most of his days sleeping in the warm in a corner of the sofa. When he wakes he...

    Scardy Cat

In my experience, the most important thing with the scairdey cat is patience. As others have said, he needs a place to hide (just make sure it's safe and comfortable), and you absolutely must not try and make him leave that safe place until he's good and ready to do it himself. When he feels...

    Cat attacks human

I can't comment on PA, but it may be of general interest that here in the UK cats are, by and large, above the law. Unlike in the case of a dog, an owner cannot be held liable for the actions of his/her cat and, as far as I know, a cat cannot be legally restrained or destroyed after attacking a...

    Hi from England!

Thank you, thank you, thank you all! I will try to bring some photos at the weekend. Our cats have all been beautiful (but then, I think all cats are beautiful, as I'm sure you all do too!)

Contemplating Exploratory Surgery- Advice is Needed!

Praying for you both. It really sounds like you don't have much choice, I hope it goes well.

    Farewell Sooty

Thank you all for your kind and warm words. The good news, a few days on, is that Charlie is doing well. Every now and then she looks for Sooty in the places where she used to sleep, and she keeps a little closer to us than before, but she is eating well and generally coping better than we...

Contemplating Exploratory Surgery- Advice is Needed!

It's a very difficult decision, and you need to bear in mind that even exploratory surgery is not certain to result in a diagnosis. This is what happened to my little Charlie. She lost more than a quarter of her body weight (and was vomiting a lot), but all non-invasive tests showed nothing...

My poor cat got ran over (dont read if you get upset)

Poor Chuck. Sometimes I really hate cars, and the people who drive them too fast. His brother is young, I'm sure he'll be fine. No-one can say whether Chuck felt any pain, but if he had a big bang on his head the chances are that he knew nothing about it. You did everything you could, no-one...

    Hi from England!

I just joined because I needed to talk about Sooty, who sadly made her last visit to the vet yesterday ("Farewell Sooty" in Crossing the Bridge). But with us we still have Sooty's sister Charlie (13 years old, tabby, adopted 7 years ago after being rescued by the RSPCA), and Danny (7 years old...
