Elderly renal cat is not eating nearly enough

I am going to look up those numbers and talk to the vet about the phosphorous binders and anti-nausea meds. Many thanks.

Elderly renal cat is not eating nearly enough

I am worried about one of my two elderly Ocicats (female, 16 years old, renal) so I am posting here as I have from time to time since they were three months old. Pherber is a delicate old lady who has lost a lot of weight, does not love her non-protein renal diet and now she is even refusing...

Is it ok to feed one old cat's prescription renal cat food to the other (same age)?

Interesting. A senior staff member at the vet’s office said that she thought it would be ok to give the renal chicken diet to our other cat because he is also an older feline in less need of protein. However, when she checked with the vet, he kiboshed that, so I am feeding them separate diets...

Is it ok to feed one old cat's prescription renal cat food to the other (same age)?

Thank you all for such helpful responses. I should clarify that she’s not symptomatic yet; we are just trying to respond to the blood test indications in the hope that we can stabilise her before symptoms appear.

Is it ok to feed one old cat's prescription renal cat food to the other (same age)?

I am waiting to hear from the vet; his staff seems to think it's ok but I'd like to know what you think: We have two 15 year-old Ocicats, one of whom (the female) appears from her recent blood test to have kidney issues. At her vet's direction I am giving her fluids and feeding her a special...

Elderly cats with diminished appeties: Something to worry about?

Maybe I am worrying needlessly but he seems to prefer sitting in my lap to doing anything else, including eating. He isn’t exactly neglecting his food, he’s just not as motivated at mealtimes as he once was.

Elderly cats with diminished appeties: Something to worry about?

First, I'd like to thank the people here who have been such a valuable, if occasional, resource for me over the years. Our beautiful Ocicats, siblings, are now 15 years old. We adore them, take great care of them and they are very sociable, sweet-natured and in good health. In the last couple...

Best wet food recommendation for 14 year-old indoor cats possibly with sensitive stomachs

Many thanks for all your help, it’s much appreciated. Not sure which protein is the culprit, mrsgreenjeens but for no good scientific reason I have always vaguely suspected the beef. They like the pâté-style food. I will experiment with the suggested brands. I am pretty sure that there’s no...

Best wet food recommendation for 14 year-old indoor cats possibly with sensitive stomachs

Hello, I am hoping to get a few recommendations here, thank you in anticipation! We have a pair of now quite elderly indoor Ocicats. Since I got them an orthopedic mount for their food, there has been a lot less vomiting (excluding the occasional hairball) but it still seems to me that at...

Old cat vomiting: dietary advice sought

Hello! We have a sibling pair of Ocicats. I've been coming here occasionally for advice about their health since we first got them; I really appreciate the expertise available on this forum. The cats are now 14 years old, indoors only and in very good health. All cats I've had have vomited...

Does anyone know about a recurring UTI in male cat??

This is all very interesting and helpful, thank you. Today the vet called to say that the urine test came back negative, even though there was blood in the sample, which the vet thinks was triggered by stress; we had noisy construction in the house recently and out college-age children came...

Does anyone know about a recurring UTI in male cat??

That's interesting. I wonder how to determine water quality here in L.A. The mysterious thing is that if it had been carried in the water, you'd think Chas's (female) litter-mate, Pherber, would have picked it up.

Thank you. Wet food only here, too.

Does anyone know about a recurring UTI in male cat??

Our adorable 13 year-old neutered male Ocicat Chas has had difficulty peeing, twice now. On seeing his distress the first time, I took him to the vet, who initially dismissed a Urinary Tract Infection because they are rare in males and said it might be stress. We considered this but felt it...
