I know, in nature/the wild Lynx eat primarily rabbits and or hares. But, is that necessary in captivity? Or, should you feed a varied diet of mice, rats, quail, chicks/chickens and such? By the way, that picture of his meal is very "cute". I am guessing, you feed prekilled prey items?

lol.... his main diet it dead chicken from the grocery store..... this is a few and far between treat..... #1 cause of death for captive cats is kidney failure..... they dont get the nutrition they need- they are carnavours but they also eat the stomache and intestines of their prey ----VEGE EATERS have you ever tried to feed a cat lettuce? .... feeding raw bunnys is wonderful for their health- both my lynx are sooooo picky eaters! sadly thats why my first passed. this guy gets rice eggs calcium tuna deer/elk and spinich all whiped up served! - its not his fav---- but he eats it :).... sorry if the pic offends anyone - i can take it down if need be

Wait, you are saying, too much hare, in whole prey forum is or could be bad for a Lynx's liver? I am sorry, but yes, I am a tad confused. I have always fed whole live prey, which consists of mice, rats, rabbits, and quail to my domestics, exotics, and hybrids. My Serval loved to eat salad. I have NO idea, if, that was normal or not! My domestics or hybrids would not LOL.
I had heard, that, Lynx where very picky eaters. I had one, DLH, that was a very very picky eater. That was enough for me LOL. What you feed your Lynx sounds great. Plus, I must commend you, on, your hard work to keep Spirt on the proper diet.
Lastly, I never knew, Lynx, actually needed to eat grain and vegetable matter to stay healthy. So, thank you for teaching me something new!

no no - not at all! any whole prey is the best for their health! if i could feed him whole pray every day i would! i guess i meant to say that they eat vege eaters - they eat the WHOLE ANIMAL giving them hair feathers bone veges and meat .... they need it all to support a healthy system .... any prey is good for them! i have heard that servals like greens that awesome and WEIRD!!! LOL! around hunting season= my brother brings deer/elk carcus over ---- he loves them! and a huge treat is turkey necks! at the holidays i would have my friends save them and he was sooo thankful! with my first baby girl - i would cut up her meat maticulously ---- until my dad made an awesome point - wild lynx dont have a professional chef follow them around to cut and prepare their meals ! lmao! it was a major DUH! moment!

It is not, that, expensive to feed whole prey, as long as, you breed your own prey items. That is the only reason, that, I can afford to do it. Yes, a Serval is a very very odd cat. In both looks and temperament. The Savannah is much much better IMHO. As long as, you do not mind a very tame and very insane, completely indoor cat. Okay, so, not for everyone LOL. That is great, IMHO, that your brother brings him the elk/deer. It is even better, that, he loves to eat it :-)! I don't think, it would be too expensive, to buy chicken necks, backs, or feet in a grocery store? But, I could be wrong, I guess. I am sure, it depends on your location. The cutting part, is really funny, when, you think of it. Your dad, has, a very good sense of humor. I would, LOVE, to see more photo's or hear more stories, when, you have time!
Thank you again!
