I have the same situation at my feral cat sanctuary. Somehow the two that "rest" in the shelter think it was built for them. Really interesting how the the Possums and cats get along. I have had to net a few that have wandered into the house and take them back outside. Somedays it feels as if I am living in a zoo.

Oh that's too funny :)  I've fed feral cats most of my life, and almost always there is a Possum among the colony at mealtimes.  i worry that it might hurt the cats cuz i don't know much about them, but so far nothing bad has happened.
The cats seem to give the Possums their respect though. :)

I have noticed the same thing with my feral cats. In the evening, at dusk, I have a racoon family and a possumm that will come feed off of any dry cat food left in the bowles. I became interested because there never was any sort of altercation between cat and racoon or cat and possum. I went on the internet and believe it or not, the 3 species do get along. I do notice they ignore each other but heck, that beats any altercation between them.

They are wild animals and not great pets, but they are actually docile and timid by nature.  They hiss and show their teeth but they don't attack.  They might bite if you stuck your hand in their mouth, but they dont try to bite you like a dog or cat does.  They just open their mouth REALLY wide and hiss.  Sometimes they do this to cars and that's how they end up dead in the road.  They are not the brightest of animals but they are not bad in any way.
