I'm not sure if it's helpful since it wasn't my cat, but several years ago we tried Zylkene with my anxious/reactive dog. It didn't seem to help. He now takes Paxil.
I think for more mild anxiety it can work wonders, but if you have a more severe case you may need something else.
Thanks..I was talking to someone who has two cats and said one of them would get aggressive with the other, the vet suggested Zylkene. She said she gIves him a 75 mg capsule a day and she can see a difference in his behavior. So I thought I’d give it a try. My cat doesn’t have extreme anxiety but I’d like to see if it helps when I need to trim her nails etc
I don't think it hurts to give it a try. I think it's more of a supplement than an actual medication and when we used it, you could get it OTC, but it could be different for cats and maybe that's changed. Hopefully it is helpful.
My vet recommended it for one of my cats, but after researching side effects, we decided to try other things. What works for us is Comfort Zone or Feliway plug-ins in several rooms in our house and Peacemaker drops from Spirit Essences (Jackson Galaxy).
