We are going down into the deep freeze in the next few days. It's going to be downright bitter.
  • Breakfast for the girls, emptied the dishwasher, and am back here with my coffee
  • General clean-up about the house, nothing major
  • My SIL's birthday is today, so we're going to late lunch/early dinner with them, followed by a bit of shopping.

  • Change bed sheets
  • Quick vacuum about the kitchen and living room, while Dear Richard goes for his walk. I'll scoop boxes then, too.
  • Talk to Rick about what day next week he'd be willing to help me clean the bedroom. I want to remove everything from under the bed and clean well. Take everything out of the bedroom that I can and then Bona the bedroom floor. It's overdue. And then the following day, do the same thing in the computer room. I have to break the idea to him gradually; I can't just spring it on him. "Dear, what day next week would you be willing to help me with --- ?" I've lived with this man for almost 51 years and I've figured out how to approach him with cleaning stuff!

Beautiful sunny morning, but dang, it's chilly.
  • Breakfast for the girls and am sitting back here with my coffee (I emptied the dishwasher last night)
  • I have the dough for a batch of Cinnamon-Sugar Crunch Bagels proofing in the oven. I made the pate fermentee last night and kept it in the microwave all night, away from prying kitty paws. This morning, I threw everything together. The recipe is from King Arthur and uses their Cinnamon Sweet Bits. It's supposed to be like a bagel from Panera, but I've never had it from Panera, so I don't know what it tastes like.
  • Hit the Shed to check on the plants. It's to get quite cold tonight, so I'll shut the blinds late this afternoon.

Well, we don't know what the bagels from Panera taste like, but these were truly excellent. They didn't look the greatest, mine never do, but they had the chew and they were so good. I don't know if I overproof or underproof them, but they get wrinkly after their water bath. Didn't affect the taste though. Rick says practice makes perfect, so I guess that's my cue. I think I'm going to try everything bagels next week. The man has an incredible sweet tooth, but he always gets everything bagels from our local bagel shop in town. We both really like bagels.

Cold and blustery today. I went out last night and put the blinds down in the Shed. Rick just went out and put them back up because it's sunny. We won't get out of the 20s today. I'll go back out tonight to put them back down.
  • The second of two loads of laundry is in the washer
  • Just general straightening up this afternoon
  • Go through my tee-shirt drawers. Again. I'm missing a maroon long-sleeve tee and it has to be around here somewhere. I haven't seen that thing in months. It probably joined our winter moose outdoor lawn flag and my Supernatural seasons 12 and 13 DVDs. Haven't seen them in forever and we ended up getting new SN DVDs. Things just go missing in this house!

catloverfromwayback catloverfromwayback You still have a K-Mart? Our K-Mart is now a Nissan dealer. We've lost a lot of stores in the last several years.

It's cold and breezy. But not as bad as was originally forecast. In the beginning, our local weatherweenie said we'd get down to around -5. Then he said around 0. Then he changed it again to around 5. We bottomed-out at 7. Not to get out of the teens today and it's breezy. A good day to stay in the house/Shed and read.

Rick's mom called me yesterday to tell me that the coconut cake was wonderful and she loved the buttered bread, too, with apple butter. And then she said she finished all her snacks from Christmas. I took that as a hint that she's ready for more snacks. And then, she reminded me that Donut Day (Fastnacht Day) is coming up. *long, drawn-out heavy sigh* I hate frying donuts.
  • Breakfast for the girls, ran the dishwasher (must empty it), and went back to bed. Got back up around 9 and am drinking my coffee. I still have to scoop.
  • Rick is visiting with his mom this morning to pick up the Kindle. While he's gone, I plan to do a quick vacuum and swiffer. You might remember she has been diagnosed with congestive heart failure and is now on Lasix. Well, that makes her use the bathroom often. Quite often. One of the aides gave her a rough time the other day about using the bathroom; said she didn't have time to deal with her bathroom visits all the time. She felt terrible and told Rick's sister she wanted to quit taking Lasix. Rick immediately talked to the person in Big Charge. The aide has been re-assigned to another floor, away from his mom. Frankly, she should have been fired. The problem is that she is a temp and it's difficult to fire anybody because they need the help so badly. But with that attitude, she shouldn't be there. Period.
  • I'm thinking about frosted oatmeal cookies. In fact, I've been thinking about frosted oatmeal cookies. So much so that I have butter thawing in the microwave for them.

You’re in America, yes? KMart Australia has been a separate company for years, though they started as the same one. It’s big here, though this is the first time I’ve lived near a store. Is the US store going under?

Went to get more bird seed at the feed store today. With this bitterly cold weather the birds are constantly at the feeders as soon as it is light.

I saw they had a stack of pallets out in the parking lot. Inquired if I could have any (Himself stacks firewood on them, I stand flowerpots on them.) Told to help myself. But they don't fit in my car so I said I'd have to find someone with a pickup. They asked where I live, said that's so close, and they'd bring some to our house that afternoon! And did! So we now have 5 more pallets for stacking wood. I'll see about some for the garden once spring arrives.

I took all the wood off the upstairs wood rack and stacked it on a flattened cardboard box, then re-stacked it so all the round pieces would end up at the top. They're more difficult to arrange in the stove. But by now they are actually all burned up - every time I walk by the stove I've been taking a look and with this bitterly cold weather two times out of three more firewood is needed.

Himself is the logger / splitting, stacking wood and I am the keeper of the flame.

catloverfromwayback catloverfromwayback I didn't know the two were separate companies. I don't know about the rest of the US, but around here, there are no longer any K-Mart stores.
C catapault That was so nice of them to deliver the pallets for you.

I did bake cookies yesterday. Shared with our neighbors and will take some to Rick's mom tomorrow when we return the Kindle.
  • Changed the bedsheets after I got up this morning. Rick got up with the girls. My day to scoop.
  • Get a grocery list ready; Dear Richard wants to go to Sam's tomorrow. I asked if we could wait a couple weeks, since we had just been to Costco a couple weeks ago. But he's antsy to go, so OK. I think he wants to peruse the snack section, to be honest. On The Border has a Queso tortilla chip that is quite good and he loves those things. We're out of them and have been for a while now. The only place we can find them is Sam's. He's getting two bags: one for now and one for the Super Bowl.
  • There will be football today, so I'm going out to the Shed this afternoon for a while.

I have my first ketamine treatment for depression in about an hour. It's an IV treatment and I have to stay at the clinic for 2 hours so I'm planning on bringing some crossword puzzles to work on.
Earlier, I trimmed a bowl I made on my pottery wheel on Saturday.
I'm also currently doing some laundry too.
I wish you all the luck in the world for this treatment.. Please let us know how it goes..

The first round of treatment was definitely the weirdest experience I've ever had. I have my second treatment on Thursday, so I'm hoping I don't have an issue with that one either (I didn't for this first one, thankfully).

I found out today that one of my dearest friends passed away. And well, I'm in shock. I don't know what to think. He and I had been through so much together. We worked together at the paper plant, we went to school together and took the same classes, and we worked together in the planning department. I knew him for almost 32 years. He was a Pentecostal minister. Needless to say, we had a lot of "discussions" about life and about what may or may not come afterward. I loved him like a brother. I don't even know what to say.
  • We dropped Clarence off at the garage this morning for his inspection and oil change. Onto breakfast and then to Sam's for our groceries. On the way home, the garage called; Clarence was finished, passed with flying colors and the mechanic felt that he didn't need the oil changed. He looked at the oil, realized I had only driven him 500 miles since last oil change, and said it wasn't necessary. Total cost: $35.00.
  • Got home, put everything away, I got the Kindle ready for Rick's mom, and we went to the home. We had some Ghirardelli heart-shaped dark chocolates for her and some oatmeal cookies. She was happy to see us (but I think more happy to see her Kindle and her snacks).
  • Back home and got Mollipop out of "prison". She can't be trusted around Muffin when we're not home, so she or Muffin must stay in the bedroom whenever we leave the house. It was Molli's turn today. Scooped the boxes and got the laundry sorted and ready to do tomorrow morning.
I'm going to bed. I'm not in a very good frame of mind right now.
