No hypoallergenic food for kittens/9 month old cat?

Hey everyone
Gave humphrey his first tin of venison wet food last night. Wow, what a difference. It's only been 1 night but his itching has drastically reduced. Only did it a couple of times and it wasn't that aggressive at all (probably becuse his dry food is chicken, going to switch him to novel proteins or just another protein that isn't chicken soon)
He also seemed way more calmer than usual? Might be just me projecting but so far so good, will keep monitoring. Thanks for suggesting on trying a brand new protein lisahe

This is great to hear! As an allergic person, I can say that itching from foods abates fairly quickly so I'm not surprised Humphrey is already reacting well to the change in food. I can also imagine that he might be calmer... allergies are very annoying, particularly itching.

I can't take all the credit for suggesting a new protein since it was maggie101 who mentioned single-protein foods!

I'm glad the Ziwi Peak is so readily available for you. One of our local stores has a lot of it but unfortunately, it has ingredients (agar-agar is key!) that we can't feed our cats.

Fingers crossed that he continues to do well on the new food!

Hey all,
just thought i'd provide an update as many of these threads often lack closure and i wonder a lot of the time where/how the cats and owners end up. Turns out the food change didn't make any changes to his FHS symptoms. He's now on gabapentin as the vets agreed that his episodes were fhs episodes and not just zoomies.

As for the itching he still itches but the feet and paw biting have stopped.

Thanks for the update -- I'm one of those people that often wonders what happens in cases like yours. It sounds like the gabapentin is helping, is that right? I hope it continues to work for him.
