Day 3? Day 4? of the headache. I give up. I would sell my soul for two Advil. It has centered on the other side of my head, which means that it's on its way out. Finally. It doesn't help that the weather sucks: no sun, just rain and wind. We're supposed to get around 3 inches of snow, starting this afternoon into Monday.

Yesterday, I went in to get my picture taken for my drivers license. Not a good picture. Well, it never is. I'm used to my grey hair for the most part, but when I see it on a picture, it's still very jarring to me. Ewww I want my auburn hair back; I don't care if it was fake! Getting old sucks little green worms.
And then we went to visit Rick's sister and BIL. Their mom has been having trouble with her cell phone and his sister had to buy a new phone. The company set it up and transferred her Contacts, all that good stuff. But there were a few things that Rick had to do. So while he was messing around with that, I hung out in the kitchen with my BIL, who was working on FoodSaving more of his homemade capicola, summer sausage, etc. And yep, he gave some to us. Good stuff! He has us completely spoiled. I would love to schedule a day of baking with my BIL. He loves to bake bread, too. He uses his KA to knead; I always knead completely by hand. We like to argue about it. All in fun; we're not serious.
Left there and took the new phone to Rick's mother. He had to show her how to use it. She can't see and can't hear and wouldn't put her hearing aids in. Rick finally said if she didn't do the hearing aids, we were leaving. It was an....interesting....experience. We brought her Kindle home and I'll put new books on it; we'll take it back on Tuesday. I just sat there with my Kindle and minded my own business.
All in all, it was an interesting day.
  • Breakfast for the girls, emptied the dishwasher, and am back here with my coffee.
  • I need to scoop boxes
  • Change the bed sheets
And hit the Shed. I do believe there's a Smirnoff out there with my name on it.

We had quite a bit of ice before it turned over to snow during the night. It's still snowing, but not much at all. Maybe a good inch or so. Not bad. And we have no plans to go anywhere.
  • Straightening-up in the kitchen, a bit in the bathroom, but nothing major. Some cabinets in the bathroom need a bit of straightening.
  • Clean my desk and put cookbooks away. I need to take some cookbooks back out to the Shed, too.
  • Start looking around (online, for now) for a decent 10-inch nonstick skillet. I still have my little 8-inch skillet, but that larger skillet bit the dust a while back and I've never replaced it. I should probably just clean and re-season my large cast iron skillet and be done with it. It's a Griswold and, when that thing is seasoned properly, nothing sticks in it! And it makes outstanding pizza!
  • Just did a Chewy order for food, litter, and treats

It's snowing but not much is sticking. Himself wants to go to Costco to get gas so I'll join him. We can go in and do some shopping, go to the nearby Wal-mart . . . I'm working on a list.

Stripped sheets off the bed. They are in the clothes washer. We'll go after I transfer them to the dryer. Sheet that covers the comforter has collected sufficient cat fur that it's in the dryer on air fluff to clean it off.

Started a batch of slow rise bread yesterday. It's slowly rising, to be baked after we get back.

Pulled the stopper out of the bathtub. No wonder water was slow going down the drain. There was enough gunky hair wound around it to make a wig. Pulled it off - yuck! - and water now drains much better.

Domino goes to the vet tomorrow, for a dental. He is blissfully ignorant. I'm the one who is nervous.

C catapault Best of luck to Domino!

Headache is gone. Completely.
We ended up with not much snow at all and most of it has melted. Now to deal with what's coming on Wednesday. Another bit of snow that's just messy and nothing else.
I was watching Cooks Country last night (on CREATE) and they made triple chocolate sticky buns. Lord, but they looked decadent. And I have what I need to make them. I'm trying to stop myself from making them because I'm supposed to be watching what I eat. :cringe: Dang. There's one piece of peach pie in the fridge (from Sunday's dinner) and I keep hoping Dear Richard will scarf it down.
  • I did Evelyn's Kindle, so it's ready to go back. Somehow in the move between the hospital and the nursing home, the charger to her Kindle disappeared. Rick had seen it back at the nursing home, so did his sister. Then poof! Gone. Rick really thinks somebody took it because things are missing throughout the home. People have had jewelry stolen (Evelyn gave Rick's sister her stuff), small amounts of money, all kinds of stuff. Frankly, I don't know why somebody would take a charger because I think they only work with Kindles, but I guess one never knows. I had kept the charger to her old broken Kindle because I thought it might come in handy at some point. I dug that out of my desk drawer and will give it back to her. It fits her new one with no trouble. She has new audiobooks and it's all charged up.
  • Attack my cast iron skillets with a Brillo pad. Again. And then re-season them. Again. Figured I'd do this before I bought a new nonstick. The problem with using cast iron on a glass top stove isn't so much the scratching; I'm pretty careful. It's that the skillet is very, very heavy. And then add the food. There have been situations where the skillet went through the glass top because the skillet and the food were too heavy for the stove top. It's not pretty.
  • Continue my drawer-cleaning thing, this time back in the bedroom.

Winchester Winchester Someone once suggested that I use one of those Bernzomatic shop torches (outdoors to be sure!) to burn the gunk off cast iron pans. Something to think about, maybe?

Domino is at the vet. I got up at 6:30 a.m. to feed him, as it had to be before 7:00 a.m. Amazing how a cat can stick legs out at all corners (bet you didn't know cats had corners, right) when trying to fit him into carrier. I'm to call at 1:30 p.m. to get an idea of when I can retrieve him. I was assured that they are very conservative vis-a-vis extractions, and x-rays would be taken to clarify if any would be done.

Between my extractions, Himself had extractions, Domino has a cleaning perhaps extraction - January is a very dental month.

As told I called at 1:30 p.m. to find out when I might come and get him. Only to be told that he was right then having his cleaning. They will call me when Domino is in recovery. Poor cat. And I cannot really start doing much of anything because who knows when they'll call.

Got a call at 3:30 p.m. Domino is in recovery, trying to stand up. I can come get him in an hour. He had already lost 2 small teeth and they removed 3 others. A topical pain medication that's good for 3 days was applied so I won't have to pill him. He can have his regular wet food. I never have fed dry to either of these 2 cats. Poor boy.

C catapault So glad Domino made it through. We worry so much about our kids when they're at the vet. I wish I had one of those torches; I'd definitely use it on my pan. There's one spot that I cannot get clean. I even tried a cleaning brick and no luck.

Pooped this morning. A very restless and sleepless night last night and I got up with the girls. No snow....yet. We've been downgraded to 1-3 inches and then it's to change over to rain. I worry about Rick coming home from bowling when the weather isn't all that great.
  • Breakfast for the girls, emptied the dishwasher, and am back here with my coffee. I had to break up an "argument" between the M & Ms around 5:00 this morning; I think Muffin was trying to use the litter box and Molli tried to instigate. Got out of the bed and walked into the computer room; Molli zoomed out the hall into the living room. I stayed in the room until Muffin finished. Then we both went back to bed with Molli joining us....after SHE used the litter box in the kitchen. Brats!
  • The first of two loads of laundry is in the washer.
  • Continue with the drawer-cleaning frenzy, still in the bedroom.

Winchester Winchester Perhaps your neighbor or brother-in-law who share food would have a torch you could use? The pan is easy enough to carry over to them while - hint, hint - sharing cookies.

I'm very tired. Yesterday Mr Poe had his dinner while I was still keeping Domino sequestered in my study. Domino ate half his usual serving, wanted more, again wanted more. Wanted out of the room and voila, Mr Poe went into that other dimension where cats vanish. He never showed up for their bedtime meal. But at 5:30 a.m. I woke up to Mr Poe throwing up on the sheet that covers the comforter on our bed.

So I got up, went downstairs, tossed the sheet into the washing machine. As it swished around I gave Mr Poe his normal serving (1/2 of a small 3 oz can) and gave Domino half of that (1/4 of a 3 oz can.) And then I went back to bed. Slept very late (the boys are so good about that.) And when I got up I

1) put sheet into dryer
2) put bird feeder outside
3) offered the boys half their normal breakfast as brunch (1/4 of a 3 oz can each) Feel that now they are back to the usual schedule of 1/2 of a 3 oz Tiny Tiger can 4X/day
4) and am now having my coffee. I mean hey, it's only 10:36 a.m., right?

It took me a couple of seconds to get past “She’s telling us this because…?”
You know, Tobermory Tobermory I knew there was something off about that! For the life of me I couldn't figure it out. As soon as I read your post, the light bulb went on and I just went, "Ohhhhhhh....." That would be W-A-Y TMI!!

C catapault I'll ask my BIL if he has a torch. I'm sure he'd take it to the pan for me. And yeah, I can pay him in cookies and he'd be a happy camper. I might ask my neighbor actually; that man has everything!

Slept much better last night. I need to start going to bed (to sleep) earlier, instead of watching tv or hanging out on my iPad. Rick got up with the girls and I slept this morning until almost 9. I should just get up every morning around 7 and stay up. Being retired does have its perks, but I'm not sure that sleeping in should be one of them.
  • The first of two loads of laundry is in the washer. I'm doing sheets today, followed by the snowflake comforter. I took that comforter off the bed and put the heavy comforter back on. I'll just put the snowflakes away til next winter.
  • Make up a bit of a grocery list for Friday. My sister and BIL and my brother and SIL are coming for dinner on Saturday. Lasagna, seven-layer salad (sister and brother will fight over that!), garlic-parm rolls. And......COCONUT CAKE for dessert! :hyper: :yess: :bliss::hearthrob: :woohoo: The six of us don't get together nearly often enough. I have the pasta sauce already made and in the fridge. My sister will walk through hot coals for coconut cake and my brother likes it, too. Rick is making a peanut butter cheesecake for him and my BIL and my SIL. They can't stand coconut.
  • Check the plants in the Shed. It's to get really cold again this weekend (lows in the single digits), so I'll turn the heat up a bit. The violets just don't look well right now. I'm watching how much I water them and they're all flowering, but the leaves are a bit droopy. Maybe after this blooming is done, I'll repot them with fresh soil and see if that helps.

Busy day today. There's a lot on my list.
  • Breakfast for the girls, emptied the dishwasher, and am back here with my coffee
  • Must grab a few groceries for the lasagna and the salad. Cake flour and cream of coconut.
  • Make two pans of lasagna and throw them into the fridge for tomorrow. Bake and frost the cake and throw that into the fridge. I may not have room, so I may have to put the cake on top of the chest freezer in the basement. Make the yeast doughs for my loaf of bread and the rolls. I'll bake them tomorrow.
  • A quick vacuum and swiffer. Wipe the bathroom and the kitchen.

Yesterday the man who hunts our property called to see if we'd be home - he wanted to drop off some venison. Sure, we'd be here. He and his partner came. I fit the venison (a back strap, a roast, a steak) into the freezer. They'd also brought a coffee cake ring from the Italian bakery. While the water was coming to a boil for tea I sent Himself and the hunter into my study to show him - out the window - where I've been seeing several deer. And they saw 20 disappearing over the crest of the hill. I made tea, we sat around the kitchen table drinking tea, eating cake, chatting, watching birds at the feeder. Very nice time.

Today the nearby volunteer fire station is having their game day barbecue. I pre-ordered a rack of spare ribs and will head out to get it in a while.

Nice C catapault ! Enjoy the venison and those spareribs!

Calling for rain, but nothing on the radar yet.
  • I have two large loads of laundry, plus a small load of cat things. Molli puked her breakfast this morning, but fortunately, she did it on the window sill covering. Cleaned it up and threw the covering in the washer.
  • I need to scoop. Rick scooped over the weekend for me because I was busy with other stuff. I need to scoop for him this morning.
  • A quick vacuum about the house, nothing major
  • General clean-up. I want to attack the stove top. Dawn, baking soda, peroxide. Best cleaner ever. Kitchen looks like a hurricane hit it. Again.

Deer here in New Jersey are really killing the forests, Winchester Winchester There's not any regeneration because they eat any seedlings that manage to sprout. The does frequently bear twins, I've even seen triplets. Coyotes may take a fawn but there's nothing to control the numbers other than automobiles and hunters.

Domino was back in bed with us last night! He's been sitting in my lap (he's here right now), trots up and down stairs, etc. But was not coming to bed ever since his dental last week. But now he's back. Happy, happy.

Load of laundry - bed sheets - in the washer. So A) they'll need to go into dryer and B) bed needs to be made.

Poking around in the basement yesterday I found some jars of homemade preserves - jam, jelly, marmalade - that can only be politely described as "vintage." Turned very dark. I'll dump the contents, wash the jars, and put them away. Unless I decide to Freecycle them.

Sun is shining. Hellebores are lifting up their buds. Snowdrops starting to poke up too. And one of the firemen at yesterday's barbecue told me a friend of his is tapping maple trees and it looks like a good season. The sap is really flowing and quickly filling 5 gallon buckets.

Ah, spring is on the wing.
