Just a bit of an update on Freya, her mom (we named her Lily) and the other female.

Freya is doing well, growing (almost up to 4lb :)), still skittish in open areas around the house but is turning in to a bit of a mischievous little kitten.

Lily is settling in, she isn't friends with the other cats yet, the only one she tolerates is Freya. No actual fights with the other cats though, just some hissing and swatting (no claws) and she growls if any come near her, nothing serious.

As for the other black and white female, she was dropped off at the vet/impound by one of the other guys that works at the shop that is an animal lover, but the "owner" went and got her so she is back to living outside at the shop. :censored: Apparently a bit more to the story, the "owner's" mom use to deal with the cat stuff, but she passed away, and now no one wants to deal with the litter box so the cats got tossed outside. He says he doesn't want to give them up, but also doesn't appear to want to do anything to take care for them. So far no one has asked or said anything about Lily "disappearing" though.

Another update if anyone is interested, I finally got Freya in for a proper exam and shots (just had her dewormed but not seen previously do to the vet being busy and schedule conflicts between my husband's work and when the vet had openings). It turns out she is older then I thought, she has all her adult teeth now, so the vet figures just over 6 months. Which means she was more like 18 weeks not 8 weeks old when I took her in.:noway: I'm still having a hard time wrapping my head around that, she is so tiny, she weighed just under 2lb when we rescued her! :frown: She is now up to 2kg (4lb 6 oz) but that still seems really small to me for a 6 month old.

Anyways, here is a pic of Freya and Lily from a few days ago

TRAGIC UPDATE: (Admins feel free to close this thread)

Freya got into something yesterday or this morning, she was seemingly fine, running around acting her normal crazy self around 11am this morning. By noon we found her collapsed on the floor in one of the cat tunnels unresponsive, we rushed her to the vet but sadly she past a few hours later despite their best efforts. :bawling2::bawling2::bawling2: The vet thinks Tylenol poisoning based on the symptoms but we can't figure out were she could have gotten it from, we look around when we got home nothing seem to be broken into, spilled, or chewed on, and we keep meds up away from the cats.

I still can't believe that just happened, it's not really real, it can't be, she was too young to die yet... :bawling: This has to be a horrible nightmare... :bawling2::bawling2::bawling2::bawling2:

I'm sorry for the double post, but I'm assuming she received the rabies and the fvrcp shots together?

I'm reading more lately about reactions when these two shots are given during the same visit, and that more vets are staggering the schedule so that the rabies is given by itself, then the next year the fvrcp is given. Additionally in case this is helpful, purevax is a safer vaccine than others.

Oh dear, I’m so very sorry. What a shock! It does not sound like Tylenol poisoning.

Yes she got two shots. I don't know what vaccine was used, it just say FDRC and the other one was Rabies.

I do wonder about the timing and the odds she found a random pill laying around too, but the vet claims it was unrelated to the vaccines. :dunno: The reason he thought Tylenol poisoning was, low red blood count (but there was evidence she was trying to make more) her blood was brown and unable to carry oxygen, they had her on oxygen at the vet but her lungs filled with foamy bloody fluid in the end and they couldn't get enough air in. When they did blood, work her liver was still good, but oddly her blood sugar was very high. She also had bloody diarrhea while at the vet, which caused them to think Feline panleukopenia at first but she tested negative. There could have been some more things I just can't remember now. It all happened so quickly though, in at most an hour she when from a normal hyperactive kitten doing zoomies around the house to flat out limp and gasping for air, it's hard to wrap my head around it.

I am so sorry! I just wanted to say that kitties that are rescues are often already carrying things we just can’t see. I can think of other things that I have experienced with sick rescues that were not apparent and the vet could not really pinpoint. A kitty named Twilight came to mind immediately upon reading your experience. I thought he was doing so well and gaining weight but we could not save him. He did not get into anything inside. If they have a difficult start as kittens they just never really get over it and their immune system gets hit with something that others kitties cloud tolerate but they just don’t have the reserves. With Twilight and another I try to remind myself that they were not alone, hungry, unloved, cold or thirsty but got the chance to know comfort and safety. They got time to be happy kitties. You did that for Freya.
