You are doing an absolutely amazing job. He is lucky to have you.
Thank you so much for the encouragement! Yesterday was so stressful! I'm not a young woman anymore. I feel like I've been hit with a truck. I think if I bang my head on that crate one more time, I'll be brain damaged.

There wasn't much poop in the crate this morning so I cleaned it up, fed him and he used the litter box. I took his cone off and let him clean himself because there is no way he was going to let me touch his bum. Vet said that was ok. Gave him his meds and now he is sleeping. I'm hoping that the diarrhea will be no more!

You so rock, he looks like he is taking things in stride :)!
Haha! You should have seen me yesterday! I was a nervous wreck. He seems to like to rest his head (with the cone) on that little pillow that I put in there. Whatever works. All trial and error and all new to me.

Ash has had a rough couple of days, getting over the diarrhea and the sore bum.

I managed to get a better look at it today, and it seems that the irritation is actually under his tail. The only thing I can think of is that it might be from the shaving. The vet told me to put a thin layer of Desitin on it every 12 hours. I know it's toxic, so I put his big donut collar on. I can't have him licking it and the cone is too small. He absolutely hates the donut and today is the first time that he growled at me EVER! I feel so bad for him, I know it hurts so much. The diarrhea is under control though, we have semi-hard poops now.

Does anyone have any idea how he would have gotten this nasty cut under his tail?

I know, he's such a trooper. I can't really tell. It looks like a cut but I don't know either. I sent pictures to the vet and they didn't seem overly concerned. I asked what it was and they didn't say. We are going to get our stitches out on Monday, so will have them look at it then. In the meantime, I'm hoping the Desitin helps. Poor Ash. 🙁

My cat doesn’t have this disease but he had to have the FHO surgery about one year ago due to a fall. He did really well. He was initially kept in a bedroom with nothing that he could jump onto for about three weeks I believe. He could walk around a little and use the litter box, but he mostly slept. I think the painkillers kind of knocked him out, but it was good, he seemed very comfortable and pain free during recovery. Around the third week they encouraged more movement and around a month very small jumps (like one stair) were encouraged. I may have forgotten the exact timeline but they send you home with very specific directions on movement. Anyway, the recovery wasn’t too bad and he was back to having the run of the house in about six weeks. He had a limp for awhile but even that is now gone. I thought I would share my experience with the surgery to let you know that it isn’t too bad at all.
:heartshape: So wonderful of you to share your encouraging story. :bouquet: Very happy your furbaby came through so great.:hearthrob::redheartpump:

Ash is so beautiful and that face! :redheartpump: :hearthrob: :redheartpump::hearthrob::touched:Looks like Lulu is handling everything pretty well. Not sure what's good for his wound but I'll check around. Hang in there, you are a fabulous mom.:hangin::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

:hellosmiley:He seems to be a bit better today. He didn't cry or growl at me when I put the Desitin on. It looks like it's working! I just want him to feel comfortable and happy. Lulu is so bad. She keeps sticking her paws through the crate bars to steal his food. Last night when I was getting him ready for bed, she went into the crate with him and I had to drag her out. I know she misses playtime.:cheerleader: Soon Lulu, soon. :dancingblackcat:

:clap2::clap:So glad he's feeling better. Lulu is keeping an eye on him and keeping him company. One knowable lady mentioned occasionally airing a wound aides healing. Keep us updated, we're all pulling for you guys

Getting the stitches out will be a big help, so hang on! I can't determine from the pic if it is the result of being shaved too closely; however, that has happened to animals I have brought in for procedures which required it or just for sanitary reasons. He is uncomfortable, but he will settle down once it starts to feel better and he can get the cone off.
