Write and use tools left handed but can only use a calculator with my right. Can use a mouse with either hand.
Sat in the back row throughout grade school because I was one of the tallest kids. I am now 5 feet tall.
Used to have a big gap in my front teeth and was skilled at shooting spit through it.
Long time metal detector hobbyist.

I took piano lessons for 14 years, starting when I was 4 years old. My parents made me continue for two years, even after I got married.
I can choose which eye I want to look out of; my eyes do not focus together. Which can be a problem.
Baking is my hobby, amongst other things. I love to bake.
I love doing web pages and design.
Someday I want to do a blog. I just don't know what to blog about!

susanm9006 susanm9006 , very interested in metal detecting, though I've never tried it, would a cheaper metal detector be a good start?
Winchester Winchester , you are so creative - I would definitely read a blog about your gardening, cooking, and decorating - wasn't it you who wanted the granite with sprinkles, and put a dragon in your yard (no, I am not stalking you - I have a good memory!)
game misconduct game misconduct , you have a lot to be proud of!
susanm9006 susanm9006 , I noticed that, too. I used to work in a doctor's office and four out of the seven total employees were left-handed

Most of the really inexpensive detectors are pretty much toys and not great at finding things. You could look to see if there are any detector rental places nearby. I would also start watching metal detecting videos to see how they operate and learn techniques. Or you could check to see if there is a detecting club in your area and whether you could tag along with someone. Then it’s just a matter of figuring out where you want to detect - on land, looking for relics or dropped things, or at beaches, lakes or oceans. There are different tools, in addition to a metal detector that are needed for each kind of detecting.

A good, usable detector starts near $400. If you want to detect beaches, especially salt water beaches or actually in the water, you might need to spend a little more. One good line of detectors to look at are those by Minelab.

Whoa! looks like lefties are taking over!
And yet one more as I wrote with my left hand as a child until my mother trained me to use my right hand instead. She thought I would have problems as a leftie - some type of old fashioned superstition I guess. However, I still use my left hand for many other things.

neely neely I can't even stand the feel of a pen in my right hand. But the world does seem to center around the righthanded. :sigh:
CatladyJan CatladyJan that is really neat that you reunited. Did you stay in touch all those years or meet again by chance?
susanm9006 susanm9006 I wonder about just for the woods near my home (the land we own). There is a small stream, but it is very shallow.

Lots of shallow streams were crossed by horses and wagons as people traveled west and sometimes coins and items were lost in the process. A few years ago a man not far from me was detecting a wooded area with no signs of homes and found a saddlebag with two gold coins in it. You never know till you detect it, so I sure would.

I can't think of anything particularly interesting about me, but what the heck.
1. I grew up in the country where the nearest neighbor was a block away.
2. It wasn't a farm, but we had all kinds of animals including geese, ducks, rabbits, pigeons, hamsters, guinea pigs, mice, and of course dogs and cats.
3. My favorite place to hang out and play when I was a kid was in the many woods surrounding us. I have a great affinity for trees and nature in general.
4. I always considered myself a dog person until meeting and marrying my husband (a cat person). I still love dogs (and all animals), but am primarily a cat person.
5. We had a "grand-cat" who visited us frequenly from the neighbors, including staying the night often (with her family's blessing). When they moved and took her with them in 2005, we were lonely and adopted two cats of our own. We lost both of those cats (our heart and soul kitties) and another sweet little angel, and currently have two.
6. I volunteer at a no-kill rescue (cats and dogs) doing a cat care shift feeding, cleaning their living quarters, and loving on them. I got involved with them when looking for a cat after one of ours passed and fell in love. They are the absolute best, and we have put them in our will.
7. I am not religous, but I am spiritual. I real a lot and my beliefs and ideas are ever changing.
8. I believe in reincarnation, and it's never been a doubt, since I had memories of past lives as a child (and others have come up during hypnosis).
9. I believe UFOs and alien abductions are real.
10. My two main hobbies are genealogy and knitting.
11. I've been a fan of NHL hockey since the 1970s after seeing a game on Hockey Night in Canada on a black and white TV (which we were able to sometimes see with rabbit ears).

My sister is a lefty. They tried to change her to right handed in school, but she was pretty much ambidextrious. She still is to an extent, some things she does right handed (like crochet) and some left (like write).

“In the Middle Ages, the left-hander lived in danger of being accused of practicing witchcraft,” the article explained. “The Devil himself was considered a southpaw, and he and other evil spirits were always conjured up by left-handed gestures.”

Did you know cats can be either left or right pawed? I saw that on a Jackson Galaxy Youtube video.

- I was born with four kidneys.
- I had 5 major surgeries as a result.
- I speak 3 languages fluently. A couple more if you count Latin and ASL, as I'm continually learning at the moment.
- I travelled and lived at various places all over the world as a child and teen; Hong Kong, Japan, UK, Taiwan, China, Japan, Russia, India, Finland, Caribbean etc etc
- I love travelling to this day in general.
- I'm currently doing a Master's Degree Part-Time in Paleographic, Heraldic and Genealogical studies. My bachelor's is in History. When I graduate I will be a certified Genealogist :read: I am hoping to pursue a specialized historical field after which includes continuing working in museums, but I'm also interesting in working in forensic genealogy; help find the identity of bad guys in unsolved cases or find the identities of missing person and Jane/John Does. One day I hope to do a PhD. In the meantime, it is fun training and researching historical topics, Latin, DNA, family history and deciphering Ancient, Medieval, Georgian/Baroque, Victorian manuscripts!
- I'm Lutheran.
- I read tarot.
- I'm a ballerina and ballet teacher.
- Alongside my lovely kitties, I also have a horse and a donkey.
- I used to compete in dressage, now I ride for leisure.
- I love reading books, of course!
- I also like a lot of geeky things and activities, like conventions and various shows or mangas associated with that world.
- My mother is an Art Historian who was a competitive Field Hockey Player and played for Team Canada, my dad a Physicist and Mathematician who was a competitive dressage rider in Grand Prix levels. They both met on a train in Moscow.
- Other hobbies I've done while growing up - Soccer, Improv Team/Theatre, Violin and Karate. Tried singing and drawing but was awful at it.

*Speaking of which, here comes the know it all annoying historian.

Left Handedness wasn't as severely prosecute in the Medieval Era as believed, contrary to many internet articles out there (I would tread carefully with that TIME article too) tag quotes and Google. It was seen as more of a disability, something awkward and unseemly. There is actually very few written evidence to anything more severe than that, so little is known of the true extent of beliefs of the time. Even the French word "Gauche" translates roughly into Clumsy or Awkward. In any case, even in the bible there was left handed heroes such as Ehud, The 700 Benjamites and the warriors who came to support King David, so lot's of complex evolutions from the beginning.

That being said of course, being left handed didn't exactly level up in acceptance and popularity in later eras or decades and really did prove to be a huge detriment in various trials. Ironically enough anti-left hand sentiments particularly peaked in the 19th Century! Biologists, forensic psychiatrists and anthropologists wrote on how being left handed was a biological deviance and anomaly, a moral problem associated with primitiveness and savagery.

Fun fact too, the Latin word Sinister, Sinistra, Sinistrum, translates to "On the Left" and "ill-Omened", developed sometime during the 14th century.

Keep in mind that anti-left handedness is a thing all over the world, not just the West and certainly not an "invention" from there. Middle East, India and Indonesia for example. Ancient Egyptians were not a fan of the left hand either, as it was considered unclean.

History is important and amazing. And lefties are amazing too ❤ Horses can be either left or right handed too.
