Hey all, so just what it says. This happened 5 years ago and the Vets didn’t know what was wrong with him. Fast forward to today and it happened again.

The episodes last for an hour ish and what happens is my Cat walks around and faints, it almost looks like his brain shuts off for a split second. He gets back up, walks around for 10ish seconds then goes limp/ faints again. Body hitting the floor and everything. Then gets back up, 10ish seconds later, faints. This goes on for about an hour. During these episodes he’s purring, head butting, cuddling, even eats.

For some reason I cannot upload any videos but has anybody ever seen this or maybe put me in the right direction. If somebody would like me to email them the videos I can do that too.

Are your vets any wiser now? My first guesses were some form of epilepsy or even narcolepsy. Can you tell us a bit more about your cat’s past and where you got him?

I m so sorry for both of you.
have you done an cardio examn 5 years ago? If not, i would recommend you to do it asap. When a cat faints, it can be due to low blood pressure or some neurological problem . Firstof all youshould talk to the vet about this and show the videos . It can be tricky for you to know if its fainting or having a seizure .
talk to your vet about what he was doing before the fainting episodes , medications given(if there are some) . What i can think of is congestive heart failure but i hope it s not .
i hope you will find the underlying problem soon.
Kiss and love sent to you!

I got him from a shelter when he was 2ish. A few months after I got him he became very very itchy (self mitigating itchy) shortly after he had a seizure followed by the “feinting” episodes.I brought him to the vet they gave him fluids and recommended I go to a hospital. I brought him to the hospital and had them monitor him over night, they had. I clue what happened or caused it.

Throughout that first year he was still itchy so we switched him to hills prescription z/d for skin and food sensitivity and it seemed to help.

A year after that he had a fainting episode that lasted about an hour. I didn’t bring him to the vet because last time it did nothing but cost 1000s of dollars.

A year after that he had another episode. I was beginning to think it was going to be a yearly thing. But he’s been fine for the past 2-3 years and it happened again so I thought I’d dig deeper into finding out.

Honestly I forget if they did a heart exam. I’ve shown multiple vets the videos and none of them know but they say it looks neurological. I would love to get him checked out by a neurologist but theyre so expensive and because he was so good until today I didn’t even think of it.

Well nothing hurts if you talk to a neurologist . Some people are still human and can give an advice for free , but if you don t try, you will never know . At least try and give a phone and send them a a video.
in my opinion, if there was a neurological problem, it would persist more and more and the episodes would be more than one five years ago and one now . My best advice is to check with different vets and see wich one fits your problems and gives you the best direction . It is very hard tofind someone that listen to your problems and gives you the right direction. We switched to different vets before wefound our lady thats so kind to us .

Yes finding the right vet is key. It’s thought because everyone that I’ve asked, all the research and videos of watched. Nobody has ever seen this. A neurologist is probably my best bet. I just wanted to see if anybody knew. It’s disappointing I can’t upload my videos here.

Searching the internet will just hurt your brain. So stop doing it .

Your vet can consult with a veterinary neurologist at a vet school or other vet hospital. This costs nothing to you.

Most people upload videos to YouTube or other platform and just post the link to the video here.

Does it always happen around the same time each year? Could he be having an adverse reaction to something seasonal?

See the link I posted. Post number 2 in that thread from user Meowmee has info on how to upload directly from your phone to the TCS media page.

The YouTube phone app has an option to upload videos directly to your account on that web site which you can then share. https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/57407

Sometimes these things are more clear to a specialist. You may go to a neurologist who will immediately have a good idea, or narrowed down ideas, about what this is. It can be a shorter course in the long run.

Some seizures can be genetic and not happen with any kind of predictability. My dog, and his brother had seizures like this and sometimes they could be frequent and other times they would go years.

I would certainly be thinking neurological for that reason. However, I would also consider if she might be having minor strokes. Perhaps someone experienced with that could chime in as to what tests diagnose strokes in cats.

Hi! I’m not a veterinarian, but I have seen this before and a kitten and when we took him to the emergency vet the vet thought that he might have a brain tumor told us he had one percent chance to live. Turns out the vet was wrong and all the kittens needed was fluids. Have you tried subcutaneous fluids for your baby? Lots of love, Tara

The video is in my phone library, the site only lets me upload pictures. How do I post my videos
Sorry about your kitty. I hope you can get some answers without spending thousands etc.

You can upload the video if you go to your account, click media, add media and then create personal album. Then upload your file and name the album. In order to share it in a post here you have to copy the link in the browser of the album / video and paste it and people will be able to view it.
Here is one I posted of Sybil a while back.
