Hey Everyone.

I am at my wits end and feel like i have no one to turn to.

Please meet Kiki who is 11 months old ( on the right ) and Totoro her brother. ( 3 years old ) below

So upon getting beautiful Kiki since March this year, we have been battling a UTI. I picked it up as soon as she started peeing on the bed.

Took her to the vet, bacteria in her urine. We have changed the Antibiotics over 3 times, 8 visits, Blood tests ( all clear ) and also Culture where it came back with nothing.

I have given her so much antibiotics and pain relief im so scared its gonna hurt her kidneys.

Apart from all of this, she does pee all the time, in and out the box, she eats like crazy, plays like crazy, she is the perfect little thing.

So now i get the call to do an Ultrasound to see if there is anything structural not right because they are all confused and gobsmacked at what's happening.

Then if they find nothing, she said i need a specialist.

I am at my wits end. I will pay anything and have been to get her right and it seems no one knows what they are doing.

Is me giving her so many antibiotics and pain relief going to hurt her kidneys etc in the future and when will this end.

I'm hoping for some light. Love Us! xoxo

Hello
I don't know about her kidneys, your vet should be able to answer that, but you may want to consider pre and probiotics to help the bacteria in her gut, since antibiotics are hard on the good gut bacteria.

Would a hygiene trim help? When she pees is she squatting in such a way that she is getting urine on her fur by sort of dragging the fur through it, or is she getting urine on her fur as she is peeing, and not cleaning it off?

Is there too much, or not enough litter in the box?

Hi T TotoroandKiki and welcome to the forum !

I have to say, I'm really wondering about the quality of the Vet you're using..........bloods showing NO sign of INFECTION....urinalysis culture showing NO BACTERIA..........and, they throw 3 different antibacterials at (an indeterminate, invisible) "it". Methinks three strikes, you're OUT!

Is there a cat-only clinic that's reachable? If so, and if I were you, I'd be booking an appointment with the longest-practicing Vet there (often an owner). (I'd suggest delaying the US until, at least, you have that 'second opinion'.)

Meantime this will give you some reliable insight into "UTIs': Urinary Tract Diseases

If you can't find such a clinic, post back.

[If you haven't been asking for and keeping a copy of the Medical file (complete), this is a good time to start!]

So i posted on here a few weeks ago regarding my baby who is 1 year old.

When we got her as a kitten she urinated out of her litter, and we went straight to the vet

For the last 7 months we have been to the vet over 20 times, giving her antibiotics, blood tests (all clear), culture test (nothing found) now recently Ultrasound (all clear and perfect)
So, we have come to the end of all the tests and 5 thousand dollars later where Ultrasound is all clear and There is absolutely nothing wrong with her.

They are referring it to being behavior issues. Which makes sense because she is a very stressed and scared cat, but why still have bacteria in her Urine? Every time we go back and do tests, they see bacteria? Thats what i don't understand when every test under the sun is normal and Shes a healthy little thing.

Not sure when you said a culture test was done and nothing was found - what the culture test was done on? On her urine? A culture on her urine would at least identify the kind(s) of bacteria found and if/what treatments might be appropriate. There are some 'harmless' bacteria that do not need to be treated with antibiotics.

Nonetheless, pure D-Mannose powder can help rid the bladder of many kinds of bacteria. It is also considered an overall bladder health supplement. Others on this site also use cornsilk - sadly, of which I know nothing about, so I can't attest to its effectiveness.

All else said, it does sound like it could be FIC/FLUTD, and may need to be treated with calming products, up to and including anti-anxiety meds.

The purpose of a urine culture is to identify what type of bacteria is involved when a urinalysis shows bacterial rods in the urine. So, I guess if they told you nothing was identified, perhaps they meant the bacteria they found is 'harmless'. But normally antibiotics are not prescribed for harmless bacteria.
