I tuned into the camera and I don't see any progress on the plate. I am hoping she will eat a 20ish gram portion between now and dinner. But I'm fearing she may skip lunch entirely.

Naw. She'll return. "I SHALL return!" and her weigh-in isn't off by much. Activity weighs (no pun intended) in, too. Maybe Ms. Betty didn't get as many workouts in this past week. Ya think?

Betty doesn’t get in any workouts. She slinks and mopes from one station to another. I am hoping after gut and teeth, perhaps we can experiment with joint health.

Betty did alright. She took 15 grams from the plate and 15 grams from the feeder. Neither looked particularly half empty. More than half full. But if I look back at pre-pred eating, she ate more on the nighttime than the day. I need accurate weigh in information. Because that was a huge jump for an inversely huge drop in calories. She went from about 205 to 175 daily average. And yet her weight increased nearly five times the increase in prior weeks. We’ll be trying to get another reading tomorrow morning.

It does seem weird. Well, we know she's not in the family way! :)
Maybe a Betty-size weight bench? No, I didn't think so. :lol2:

She ate first and second dinner last night. But only nibbled at the feeder. Looks like another “under” day at about 165 calories.

I got another weight on her this morning. 10.18. I got a negative reading too (tare the scale while she’s on it and take the reading after she leaves.) It also agreed with that number. For good measure, I took a 10 lbs dumbbell and got a 9.98 reading. I don’t understand how she’s gained so much weight on fewer calories than she’s taken in in over a month.

She ate less than half of breakfast. And still waiting on her to return to the plate. 😔

I called the IM office yesterday because I need a pred refill. Told them to have the doc call me when he can because it’s about time I checked in with him. Let’s see what the doc says about her current progress on the 2.5 mg level and her mysterious weight gain.

I'm still thinking 'less activity=more weight' and yeah, let's see what the doc hypothesizes! It doesn't seem to me as if Ms. Betty is missing the calories and nutrients she needs and wants. Let's see.
Ah, freeweights! ;)

Less activity = more weight, for sure. That's why I get fluffier in the colder months.

But this is bonkers!

Week ofWeightDifference from prior weekAverage Daily Calories
9/49.760.08196
9/119.940.18203
9/1810.040.10207
9/2510.080.04202
10/210.220.14176

In other words, on her weakest eating week in a month, she gained the most weight. What the fluff?!

If her eating gets any weaker, she's going to be huge! 🐖

Could Betty be full of poop? Just asking...
Betty just pooped. I bagged it and weighed it. For science! Her healthy, hearty poop was 23.5 grams. Rounding it up 24 grams, that's 0.05 lbs. (24 grams / 454 grams in a pound.) So yes, you're right. Poop can play a small part in the scale reading. But does she have two more of those poops still in her to account for the larger than expected weight gain this week? Doubtful. Her appetite would be weaker than it is if that were the case. And while her poop zooms are only about one zoom and one pounce, they are more spirited than I would expect for a constipated cat.

It don't make no sense. Like most things in life these days.
As for that "fluffier," may I suggest a good Wahl with all the attachments. :insertevillaugh:

Breakfast was finally finished at 11:15 this morning. Isn't that what I said for the other morning? She certainly had a larger remainder to finish this morning, making it that much more stressful than the other morning.

It's probably going to be a slow lunch day. I don't expect her to look at it until 2 pm. We're going to skip the feeder portion today. I am looking back at her pre-pred portions and she was taking about 5 meals a day at about 36 grams a meal. Since pred, that grew to 5 meals (average 39 grams) plus an afternoon feeder. Since tapering to this 2.5 mg level, I think we can ditch that afternoon feeder. Let's see if the doc thinks another week at 2.5 (my preference) is a good idea so I can get a better baseline of her new eating.

I was thinking that pred would provide relief and with that healing enough that her portion sizes would have grown beyond her pre-pred levels even after tapering. It makes me wonder if pred isn't simply covering up for a still simmering issue. The doc is probably going to recommend trying the diet change again. I'm not certain I can get her off chicken. I'm not even sure I can find another food she enjoys as much as I/D. But I am eager to try Fancy Feast Gravy Lovers with her. Yes, it's got some junky carbs. But it's lower carbs and higher protein than I/D. Even she only eats it once or twice a day, that's still diluting the junky I/D and increasing the protein in her diet.

Sounds promising to me. I've known several people who feed their cats FF and swear by it. It's actually not as "bad" as a lot of other choices. I wouldn't hesitate if my cats liked it, which they haven't in the past when I've bought it as a treat. Ah, well.
Yeah, the pred. The pred. the pred...

FF pates...yes. I wouldn't hesitate to feed them to a non-IBD cat. But the FF pates all contain fish except for turkey which Betty shows little interest in. The FF Gravy Lovers isn't an ideal food. It's still a little junky. But it's less junky than Hills. It's lower in carbs and higher in protein. I'm looking for a step up from I/D that she still might enjoy as much as I/D.

She ate 1/3 of lunch and has been pestering me ever since. I played with her. I gave her fuss. I don't know what else she's looking for. 🤷‍♂️

Blah!

She ate 14 grams of a plated 40 gram lunch (what used to be 60 grams with the feeder). She has about 30 minutes left. But I don’t think she’s going to revisit it. I really wanted to her eat twice what she did. I really believe she is eating less than she should be eating. Which makes the weight gain all the more worrying. Even a lazy Garfield like Betty should need more than 150 calories a day, yes? And 150 a day should not be causing dramatic weight gain. 🤦🏼‍♂️😔😿

Today has been an agonizing waiting game—waiting for Betty to eat and waiting for the doc to call. He probably won’t until after 6 today. Or tomorrow. I don’t even know if he’s in today. 🤦🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️😿

She just now started grooming. Grooming usually precedes eating. At this point, do I let her eat something and push dinner back? Or do I take the loss and grab the plate before the schedule gets all messed up? Too late. She already pulled up the plate while I was vacillating on this. Granted I took up a side task and got distracted. But yeah. Tonight’s going to be interesting. Let’s see if I can get some pred and dinner in her without popping her.

(She just started on her second pass of lunch at 5 pm. I usually start her dinner at 5:15 to 5:30. Let’s see how much room she left in her belly for a fresh can portion. Or if I can even stir her in 30 minutes…)

I know you and Betty have a schedule and it usually works well for you both; but cats most often graze, so I wouldn't worry too much due to her eating now. I'd just offer her her dinner at 5:30 or as close to that as possible.
Really hoping the doc calls you today!!! SOMEONE should call you, at any rate. It's maddening waiting on something important like that when your loved one is involved, I know. The whole situation is weird. But hoping and praying there's some kind of logical explanation (too much to hope for in these times? Maybe, but I still do.) that will reassure you, and that it comes SOON.
