My mouser cans arrived! Since Zorro has proudly & loudly gifted me the same live mouse 2 nights in one week I’m wondering why I’m doing this. (I’m sure the mouse is getting tired of the routine). I’ll see what‘s left in his timed feeder come morning!
Maybe he keeps bringing you the live mouse because he wants you to make it into food. Great hunter. Lousy cook. 😹

I can’t wait to hear what he thinks of it. I think you should sneak him a fresh portion just to hear the snarfing sounds that Betty made. 🐷👍

I gave him a taste of things to come. BIG BIG hit! I think he can’t quite believe his luck. No crocodile teeth (he’s missing gnashers) but lots of happy snarfing. A joy to me: I’ve been so afraid to try him on anything else b/c of IBD. But it must be a thrill for him to have a new flavor …at last! (He’s licking every last inch of the plate). Now, if they’d only bring down the price a little…

and Daftcat, I think you might be right: “THIS, here, mom! THIS is what I want in my catfood!” 🐁

Four cans scheduled to arrive on Tuesday, one of each flavor! The girls’ usual fare is Rawz, which I buy locally, but if they like this brand, I’ll order enough to hit the free shipping amount and add to the rotation. It’s less expensive than Rawz which has really jumped in price.

Lots left in the feeder this morning, but, it’s a MUCH bigger can. I think for me this will be a rare ‘sometimes’ treat. I’m still frightened of messing with his ‘steady as she goes’, Farmina quail and pumpkin poops! But I see a trend here: more cat food w/ less mystery ingredients on the market, very exciting.

I also have some Mouser scheduled to arrive on Tuesday, I'm looking forward to trying it out on our cats, too!

Betty slept through her feeder portion last night. But it gave me the chance to stick my finger in it and determine that it is indeed a good room temperature coming from the fridge and sitting in the feeder for a few hours. I’m not sure how long I’ve been feeding from that first can or how long it can last. So I dumped the remainder and started a new can. I can’t waste that first fresh can portion on a feeder. So I mixed in a treat amount into her lunch. And then some more in the feeder. I know that was a hit. She sniffed one side of the plate. No. The other side. Oh. Let’s start here. She normally just looks at the lunch plate like she needs to know it’s there. Then goes to sleep for an hour or two before starting in on lunch. This time she cleared the treat portion and kept on going nearly clearing the plate. I’m happy she has a feeder portion for later. I’m still in food transition mode with her. But I can’t wait—Betty can’t wait!!!— until this is in rotation.

I'm glad she's enjoying it!

This reminds me that I've been wondering what the calories are for Mouser. I know you're feeding the one with rabbit (which I didn't order!) but I didn't find calories on the Mouser site so even the rabbit number would be good to know! Thanks!

This is calorically dense at 1.21 calories/gram. Rawz rabbit is 1.11 cal/g. Hills A/D is 1.17 and and her beloved Hills I/D chicken stew is 0.97. I believe Fancy Feast Classic pates come in around 1.04. So yeah. It’s been a slow transition changing out 0.97 for 1.21. 🙀

Well, we can use some calorie-dense foods around here, thank you, daftcat75 daftcat75 ! It will be interesting to see if the poultry/mouse foods are as caloric as the rabbit/mouse food.

So excited! I just ordered a couple cans of each "flavor". Since my boy previously lived on the streets and loves to play with and dig for toy mice in his Ripple Rug I'm hopeful he'll like it. Right now ALL he'll eat is fish flavors of Fussie Cat. For a cat who was a stray he sure is finicky about what he eats. :ohwell: He did come out of a Texas coastal city so maybe he ate a lot of fish, BUT he really needs to branch out. I'll post his review after he tries the varieties.

UPS just delivered my (well, the cats’) four cans of Mouser, one of each flavor. Here are the Kcals/can for each 5.5 oz. variety:
  1. Brush Hunter (rabbit/mouse): 181.51
  2. Forest Hunter (turkey/mouse): 191.58
  3. Pond Hunter (duck/mouse): 196.5
  4. Field Hunter (chicken/mouse): a whopping 235.05. Either a very obese chicken or a very rotund mouse
We’ll try Brush Hunter this evening!

When the cans are empty, can someone remove the labels and lay them out flat and take a picture of them? Google only comes up with the front of the label but not the rest of the label with the stuff people would like to know (ingredients, calories, etc).

I know. It was frustrating. I’ll do it.

Okay, here they are. Also, I took a pic of the opened rabbit. It’s more of a rough pâté rather than smooth like Rawz. The girls ate it willingly but no more so than Rawz.

A topic for a future possible TCS thread: pictures of canned food labels and what the food looks like inside a freshly opened can.

Not sure if I would try Mouser with the cats. I have kept pet mice in the past and may have them again in the future and don't want the cats to equate furry moving thing with yummy food :fear: Leroy has always ignored the pet mice. Emma likes to sit and watch them out of curiosity mostly.

Yes, thank you very much, Tobermory Tobermory for doing that! My Mouser box arrived today, too, though I haven't opened it yet. Those are very caloric foods.

My big question, Tobermory Tobermory : Do you think Mouser smells particularly bad?
I can answer that one. I was expecting a very game-y smell. It’s a mild smell. Smells better than Rawz rabbit. 🙊
