Our 9 week old kitten has had hair in his poop twice that caused the poop to hang off his butt. Not sure if the hair is his or ours. He has longer hair. What is the proper way to deal with this? I read not to pull on it but cut the hair that's hanging? Little nervous about using scissors near a squirming cats butt. Would a hairball treatment help? Thanks

Hi!
I'm not clear --is this hair that he's ingested, or is the poop getting stuck in the fur around his butt .. .. or both?
Can you groom him more frequently? There are blunt end scissors for kids that might work. I'm not familiar with hairball treatments and kittens so I can't help from that perspective.

It sounds like grooming with maybe a zoomgroom (which is rubber rather than metal) is in order. He needs to learn about that anyway 
Is he grooming himself?
You might check with your vet about whether a hairball treatment would be safe for such a young kitty.

My goodness, little boy! Maybe this is shedding his kitten hair from the heat, I don't know. Hang in there!

He actually did very well. He squirmed and meowed but nothing to bad. My only other experience with bathing a cat was when our now deceased cat, Little Miss Missy, got sprayed by a skunk. That was quite an experience!
I'm thinking the hair might be people. Oliver has a German shepherd stuffed animal he sleeps with. He also grooms it and bites it's tail. It was my Dad's and then mine. I'm going to lint roll it and see if that helps. I just want to say everyone here is so helpful. Thank you.

if you have long haired people in your home then its their hair i cant even remember the times graycie has eaten a strand of my long haired gf only to end up chasing her around to get the chunk of poop dangling from her but as she runs all crazy trying to shake it off. leaves you 2 options vacum around alot more or shave all the humans bald
