Reunited with my precious Angel 😭💕 she’s on a whopper of a steroid dose so I’m really hoping that we’ll kick this thing’s butt💪🏻
Tearing up, this is wonderful to see. Yeah she may be on a high steroid dose for a bit, but I really believe it will help!

My wife was just losing it on the phone when the vet called to give us the good news lol I was absolutely pumped and super excited meanwhile my wife was on the floor crying from relief…so definitely two ends of the spectrum of happiness in this house😂

Little Tosie is currently taking a nap and we’ve bought some special high calorie extra-soft mousse for her for later so I think she’ll be very excited about that!

Just checking in, how is little Tosie doing? I bet she's tired but hope eating well and getting lots of rest and Lovings. ❤
Tosie is doing very well!!! Her appetite is so good and her heart and respiratory rates are nice and low like the vets want. She also pooped early this morning and didn’t have diarrhea like we’d feared she might so I’m extra pleased!! She also has no fever:)

At the moment she’s taking a nap by the window. I’ll attach a photo for you guys. We go back for another blood draw this Tuesday

Hi, everyone. I thought I’d update you all on Tosie:

She’s doing okay. She’s had a great appetite all week and she’s been very alert and active today, although she got very tired around 5pm and has remained that way since. She’s also less interested in her dinner than I’d hoped. I’m hoping it’s just the nausea (she has been extremely nauseous today: drooling, gurgling belly, lip-smacking etc) but I can’t help but fear her HCT has dropped again.
Especially with her next check in being tomorrow. I would love more than anything to be optimistic that she’ll be able to come home tomorrow and not be hospitalized again but honestly I just don’t know.

I wish I had a much more positive update for you and that I could say I think everything will be okay but if I’m honest, I wake up every morning terrified out of my mind.

I’ll let you all know how tomorrow goes. I have a horrible feeling that she will have to stay overnight again. I really really hope I’m wrong. My wife and I are struggling financially because of all the overnight stays…I can’t give up on her but I fear we will have exhausted what little savings we have soon and I live in fear of that day coming.

I hope you all have a good night. Please give your pets hugs and kisses from us.

❤

I don't know if there's anything here, but wanted to post it in case you haven't seen it already;

No Money For Vet Care? How To Find Help And Save Your Cat’s Life – TheCatSite Articles
Unfortunately I live outside the United States, so I don’t think any of those organizations can help me. My wife’s family is well-off but will not help with vet bills. Basically their thought is that she’s just a cat and we should put her to sleep.

My family lives back in America but live below the poverty line. They know how much Tosie means to me so they’re trying to scrounge together as much as they can to help, which I’m very grateful for.

Honestly, most of our financial stress comes from the fact that I can’t find a job in my wife’s country. I couldn’t afford to go to college in the states and now that I’m here, I’ve found that all the doors to society are shut to me because I can’t speak fluent Swedish and people don’t like to hire immigrants. I’ve been job searching for over a year, and thus far have found that I can’t even get a job cleaning bathrooms.

Im so sorry to unload all this on you. I don’t mean to dump on anyone, I just always worry that people will think im lazy or unprepared or asking for handouts. My wife and I tried so hard to be prepared…we have savings and expensive pet insurance. We took Tosie for all her checkups…we just never imagined that even with all that preparation it might not be enough anyway.

I am taking the advice to sell my belongings though so hopefully that could make a dent in the cost. I have my Nintendo switch along with my wife’s up for sale and we’re selling a bunch of our clothes/cameras/bikes etc. I also have my childhood gameboy collection that I may be able to get $200 or so dollars out of! It’s not hopeless, at least 🙂 just scary

It can be so incredibly difficult and challenging.

Im so sorry to unload all this on you.
Never feel like you need to apologize. We don't judge here - we've all been in, or close enough to touch, the various situations you're finding yourselves in.

Tosie couldn't have better caretakers :vibes: :redheartpump::crossfingers::redheartpump::heartshape:

No one here on TCS thinks that anyone who cannot pay huge, ongoing veterinary bills is lazy or unprepared. Vet bills worldwide are becoming untenable for most people, even with insurance, and easily reach 5 figures if anything serious needs to be treated. It is ironic that you have good pet insurance but have exceeded the limit; you tried to be prepared but had no way of knowing what was coming.

Your family could try to do a Go Fund Me here in the states and it might be worth contacting some of the major animal organizations like the HSUS and ASPCA to see if they have any information about financial help with vet bills in Sweden, if it exists. In the states, there are numerous organizations who offer help and I wonder if there are any in Sweden. Have you talked to any Swedish cat rescue groups to see if they have information? I admit that all of this is a long shot, but you might come across something that would help. I don't think that your family in the states can apply for help to an American aid organization as I am under the impression that they will want records of the pet in question. I could be wrong, but at least some of them want to see vet bills or records.

With her appointment being tomorrow, if she has to show some signs of a slight decline I guess now is the time. At least you don't have to wait for an appointment and stress over this for several more days. If she's nauseous, she probably wants to sleep it off. Maybe she just has an upset stomach and will feel better tomorrow :) My cancer dog has never missed a meal in his life. He'll eat anything I offer him at any time. About 2 months ago, he declined breakfast. I was a mess. He did that two or three times and I stressed like crazy, but then that was it. In 8 weeks time, he's back to considering his stomach a black hole so maybe Tosie just is adjusting to medicines or something like that.
Lazy and unprepared!?? No way. Please don't ever think that. You have all been through a lot in a very short period of time. The financial situation can be scary, and it's amazing how quickly we can put a huge dent in savings that took us a long time to accumulate. I'm finding myself skipping out on things so I can pool it into my dogs little piggy bank. (FWIW I don't feel overcharged at the vet at all! It's more than reasonable. We just have to go quite often. And he's on a lot of things that need refilled often, etc.)
By the way, your family back in the states sounds awesome. :) Financially struggling themselves, but are willing to scrape a bit of cash together to send you, because they care about you and know how much this hurts. The money will help, but that support and knowing they care is so important during times like this.
Hugs to you all. :)

My family is really wonderful. My mom especially calls every day to check on Tosie and make sure I’m doing okay as well. She’s been helping me get out of my own head and it means the world to me.

And yeah, I won’t even care at all if what the send me is 25 cents…what matters so much to me is that they would offer at all. My wife has been very depressed about how her family is basically just ignoring the situation. The most we can hope for from them is just a frown face emoji. We can forget about words of support or anything else.

This morning at least, Tosie is very active and bright eyed. She’s absolutely raving mad that I can’t give her breakfast though, so we’ll see if I make it to the appointment or if she takes me out lol
