Hi everyone,
I hope you all are doing great

We are literally moving to the other side of the world soon (to the US), and Tiger (5 yrs) and Max (4 yrs) are going to accompany me.
I have my concerns regarding the flight, as it is going to be at the very least 20 hours, and can even be 25 hrs, I don't know yet because I have not made reservations yet. This is a very long period of time for a cat right? And my airline does not allow for pets to be in the passenger cabin if the flight is +6 hrs (I can't change the airline because my ticket is government-issued). So they're going to be in the 'cargo' cabin with the luggage.
My first question is, would they be okay going all that time without water? would they be able to endure the conditions in the cargo space?
Also, what can I do to make it easier?
Any tips?

Thanks!

Not sure where you are coming from….no chance of breaking up the flight?

I'm coming from the Middle East. And, there's a short transit at London, but nothing more than that.

Hi, I would contact the airlines and see. My friend and her now ex-husband both worked for an airline. I am not trying to sound scary, but her ex put her dog in an area and he froze to death during the flight. They used her husband as an example in a "what not to do" training video for new employees. (BTW, in his defense, he was new and certainly didn't mean for this to happen.) Therefore, I think there is a seperate area from where the pets are placed and the suitcases. I would question the airline extensively about how they handle pets and if they are kept safe. About the water, I would check with the vet. I hope you have a safe trip and enjoy living here.

Doesn’t sound as if this is an option, but, could a trusted friend who might visit you anyway down the road bring the cats later and more safely?

sorry, I did not get it. How would a friend's flight be different than ours?

As scary as that sound, I appreciate you telling me about it.
Well, I don't trust the airlines to begin with. But, I will contact them to ask further questions as u suggested.

Just wondering, if -somehow- their flight could be broken up more to give them a chance to pee, stretch their legs and so on. If you don’t trust the airlines to begin with, I’d ask them everything you can. I wonder if you can get it in writing.

Thank you guys
I contacted the airline and they told me they keep the pets in a special pet unit that is prepared for them with appropriate temperature and air pressure, which is reassuring.
However, I'm still concerned regarding the long fasting they need to undergo. Is it so terrible for them to go 20+ hrs without water?
