I bought two purebred young cats from a breeder here in the US - she breeds and shows cats. I discussed registering the cats with both TICA and CFA and she agreed and she knew I would use the cats to show and to breed. She registered both cats and transferred their ownership to me under TICA registry but will not follow through with CFA - she actually spent the money to register the first of the two cats recently after I paid and owned the cat for a year...but now will not send me the yellow slip - says CFA has my email address which she provided. CFA refuses to do so -says that must be done by the breeder. I offered to pay for the expenses, I offered to give her a kitten from each cat, but she will not answer me - says she is too busy going to parties and was so sorry she left me down. I contacted CFA and explained - CFA registration confirmed the breeder has the yellow slip for the first cat - nothing for the second one. I was not able to sign a contract for both cats - she said she didn't do contracts and after all, contracts are broken so much they are not relevant. I purchased a male to breed with the first cat and he will be CFA registered - if I get kittens from the union, can I register with CFA kittens produced from a female cat registered with TICA to a CFA registered male - to get around what ever is the issue with this breeder? Must I take her to small claims court to prove to the judge I own the cats (both have TICA certificates of ownership) and the proof that she is holding the CFA certificate and not providing it to me? Is this her way of preventing me from every showing them in a CFA cat show? She is blocking me from ever selling he kittens of the first cat as CFA registered - is this her intention?

I am having issues about registering my TICA cats with CFA and I am new about the processes of both associations. How can I get an advisor who can mentor me and answer my questions?

A contract is only as good as the paper it's written on.

If a person doesn't want to give you a contract, it probably means that they've got something to hide.
If that person also takes your money but doesn't answer your messages when you have a question probably doesn't want you to find out what's being hidden.

I'd give the person one more chance to answer fairly but, if they don't respond in a forthright manner, I'd consider whether I should "Lawyer up."

Update - I was able to get the ownership transferred for my Lykoi and I have the certificate. She is officially in both TICA and CFA and both associations show me as the owner and associated with my cattery. Now I can use this information to register my Lykoi for CFA shows and I can register her litters in CFA. Many thanks - is there something I have overlooked for CFA? Unlike TICA, I can't see my Lykoi in my account - I was told that only cats I register (no own) will show in my dashboard account. That's really odd - TICA has a better system.

The breeder where I purchased my Two Turkish Van's would not release to me their Registered papers. Both of my boys are Show alters. The contract Stipulated that I would have to return the Cats to the breeder if I was unable to care for them. If I broke the contract and was found out , I could be sued in court. Since I have no desire to show them "Not" having a piece of paper, is no big deal.

I am not in the US so not fully familiar with the CFA, but check whether Lykoi are a breed that you can show in regular breed classes/groups with CFA, as they are a newer/newish breed there might be a restriction to provisional classes or whatever the CFA equivalent of that is. TICA tend to be a bit more forward about accepting new breeds and allowing them to be shown.

EDIT: According to Wikipedia, they are provisional status in CFA until 2023/24, I don't know if that helps.

The breed will remain Provisional until CFA votes to allow Championship status. There is no specific timeline for this. There are certain conditions that must be met. Because some of the conditions are linked to the entire show year (which runs from the first of May to the end of April) it's likely that the 2023-24 show season is the earliest possible time for that vote to take place. It's also possible that it could take several years, as has happened with some breeds in the past.
