Mamanyt1953 Mamanyt1953 I am glad it will be addressed. I imagine the hot spot will be addressed, dressed and re dressed as soon as it can be bandaged. Ouch! Accidents like that caused the ban here but so many break the law that officers can’t keep up! If they guarded the bridge over the state line, I expect the officers could make quite a lot of income for that county! The road is lined with vendors taking advantage of the fact that people will cross over there to but the things they can’t buy here. I hope that guy heals but I also hope he has learned a valuable lesson. Safety first!

N NY cat man Blanks I can understand as long as neighbors know. Lol There are some around here who fail to understand that loaded ammo shot into the air will come down somewhere! Look out below! Hoomans! Maybe that is part of the reason law enforcement lets the fireworks violations go unless there is a real problem like what Mamanyt1953 Mamanyt1953 saw? There will always be one that does something risky. I can’t even imagine the pain! New meaning to hot foot? New term too? Ouch.

Whenallhellbreakslose Whenallhellbreakslose As I always hope when cats are involved, never give up. Thank goodness Oscar is caught. Now the work to help him adjust begins. I don’t know if you have followed the story from the first time he was caught but I am hoping things will be much easier now. Oscar is so smart and I imagine he knows that this is his food source. It will take time but he is going to his own private catio! Yay!
It was like a war here too. I have never seen di many powerful fireworks in private hands and the quantity was overwhelming. I have always had fireworks around us out here but this year was very different. Perhaps because people have been so restricted for so long? Stress relief for them but not for us. The kitties are all back out. Skittish but okay. I am guessing the cats there will show up too. Poor kitties cannot possibly understand why humans like exploding things! They probably think that’s the only way a human can hunt since we can’t even catch a mouse! ;)

tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 Flying over fireworks must have been quite a sight! Wow! I guess that was the Mojave? Little risk of causing fires there I suppose.
Oh yes. I know the land prices there are very high. I had a friend there and long, long ago the prices were mind blowing! It varies greatly here. I wish I could go back to my Grandmothers house but that is now far into the millions. It’s not a grand house but it is on an island and there is only so much of that to go around. I can’t even guess at what the taxes would be now. I saw an amazing house for sale in Mississippi. It was beautiful, large, had separate suites, basement, main level and upper level and breezeway connecting to a second part of the house. Five acres, a creek with a small bridge and gardens! Only $180,000 list price. It sold slightly less! However, no vet anywhere near. That alone was enough to stop me. Medical care in general is sparse there and a vet a hundred miles away? Nope. Not for us. Gosh it was awesome though! I knew the family that had lived there and the Dad had put much of himself into that place. I hope the new owners keep the gardens and beauty of the place intact.
Margot Lane Margot Lane All fireworks banned there? Kitties can relax there! :yess:
Felinopolis. Lol Oh yes. A catnip farm would be included. What happens f you grow and harvest catnip? Lol

tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 I like the thought of a silvervine Forrest too. It sounds magical!

N NY cat man Giant bags of catnip! Every cat near would come! Lol Bashful and Stretch look so content. Good stuff!

Hmmmm. tabbytom tabbytom Lol So I should get my kitties their own fishing poles? Oh! Maybe cats already know about fishing rods. They definitely don’t want to get their paws wet and , apparently, don’t need to! Live and learn about cats and their many talents. 😮

Yes, Jcatbird Jcatbird ! When we bought our place in the Mojave, a fairly new 3+2 on a hectare (2.5 acres) of land, we could have bought 2 of those for what this one went for then. With quite a lot left over.
N NY cat man and rubysmama rubysmama Yeah! I immediately zoned in on that, too, and then thought, "No, that's not a Three Point. But it does look like one!"
That's an amazing video!

A worker at our vet's office makes catnip bags, the sale of which goes to support local rescues. Michele got some new ones today, and Bashful and Stretch have been into them.View attachment 425298View attachment 425298
If that's one there on the right, they look very well made! And Bashful and Stretch look very content there on their beautiful blankie.

I don't recall where Michele got it, but I think that it's just supposed to look like one. It's about 15 years old now, more or less.
I Googled, and I think you're right, it's a wannabe.

The real ones are quite expensive! Like $325 - $450. And, nope, I don't own one. ;)

Hope everyone is doing well this 6th day of July.

I was Googling for a Wednesday cat meme, but found this one I rather liked.

Jcatbird Jcatbird Well good news ALL the kitties were accounted for at dinnertime today. Yay!!! That is so funny when you said people are lighting off more fireworks to relieve stress. Sure, great stress reliever for them, but for us it leaves us with frayed nerves. :help::runaround::dizzy:
Especially when cats are involved! So glad that the cats that you feed who went missing are all back. Yay!!!

Thanks for the cute videos. I do give the outdoor kitties cat nip from time to time. Really only the few who don't get aggressive from it. It is just a little treat for them to make their day special.

Once again so happy that Oscar was caught. I didn't hear about the previous capture, but I am sure things will work out fine this time. I seen pics of that gorgeous Catio. He is a very lucky kitty to have Bitsy's mom as a caretaker.

Well, you take care as well as everyone here. :redheartpump::redheartpump::redheartpump:

Something that occurs to me often: There are people like us, who think of, care for, and help others; and then there is the majority, who are self-absorbed, consumerist/materialist, and entirely concerned with themselves (and maybe family and a few friends). Most of these people would give you a blank look if you mentioned being stressed by their inconsiderate noise/etc. If they got that far, which most wouldn't, they wouldn't care. In fact, many would get aggressive about it because YOU are saying THEY have a problem when it's YOUR problem (their thoughts, not mine!) and how dare you rain on their parade?!! I've dealt with this all my life, and I'm sure I'm not alone in it. Most of us here could write books on it, I think.
The upside, which I always try to find to remain sane, is that it only goes on for a few nights, and then they get distracted and go on to some other way of self-medicating, self-absorption, selfishness.

True. We live in a society with a lot of self centered people who couldn't care less about anything but themselves. Do they realize how many injuries and deaths happen each year from fire works? No, they don't care. There were some professional grade fireworks lit all around me. One oopsie moment and someone could have gotten hurt. Also, these fire works were lit up well into the wee morning hours. No consideration given to anyone else who needed to sleep and go to work the next morning.

I felt so bad for the cats. How stressful to have very loud fireworks being lit all around them. I think more about their welfare and this really angers me. TG they are very resilient and are back to normal. They are survivors. 🙂

Agree 100% with all! Of course.
Common sense is VERY uncommon in this society, which is why we are the laughingstock of the world and should be ashamed (but instead, are aggressive, ignorant, and callous in too many cases. Way back, there was a film called, "The Ugly American" which was basically about this. It's more true than ever. Not saying there aren't wonderful, caring, intelligent people here -- a lot of them are actually on this site! -- but far too many are on the other end of the spectrum. And you're right. They couldn't care less. Some former friends of mine have turned into these. That's made them FORMER friends. I'd rather have no company than bad company!

I feel the same and self centered and though less people ARE bad company. I rather spend time with people who actually care about others and especially animals. My kind of peeps. :redheartpump:

Jcatbird Jcatbird I hope everything is okay with Banjo, yourself and everyone at Chez Catbird. Take it easy.:heartshape:

Yes! It gets lonely at times, because I don't find good people here, except for my roomies. And now, I only share life with one rescued cat. But still, there are lots of good people, feral and rescued cats here at TCS! and in my daily advocacy work.

rubysmama rubysmama Yes! Those fireworks were extremely powerful! Very illegal here so that’s probably why the person shot them behind the trees. I bet the neighbor on the other side was really upset since all her cats are usually on her porch. At least I have more places for animals to hide over here. Something was under my house and I suspect it was a cat! Kitty poo often comes here to hide out or get a nice treat. I saw two of her cats here today. One had been under my porch and the other was under the Catavan. Not where I want a cat to be but the catio and cat shelter are probably where they hid during the show. I have kept two of the cat shelters and one catio outside, just in case a cat needs a place.
The cats are doing well today. Banjo has been very playful today. She got something today. She must have ordered online during the fireworks. Lol
Hmmmm. I can guess why you liked that meme. Must be singing some cat lover calming songs. ;) Happy Thursday!

N NY cat man You’ll have to tell Michelle that we are all admiring her taste! Beautiful. The cats there obviously appreciate her taste! Lol Classy cats.

tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 The land in the Mojave was that expensive too? Wow. Beauty and peace are worth it.
You always notice the de tails. ;) Cats and surroundings.
That video was amazing. Cat fishing. Lol
Of all the people who have selfish tendencies, I think for me it boils down to one thing. Priorities. You either have your priorities straight or you don’t. I try to put myself in the other persons shoes. I think about why they may or may not do something. Why would this particular thing be a priority to them? Hmmm. The only reason I can come up with on the massive amount of fireworks this year is that the world has been restricted lately and a lot of people have been living a kind of dark existence so, maybe this is just bright and pretty to them? I think there are other ways to brighten things but my way would be to do something for someone else. So, taking those veggies to the neighbor parents was three fold. It encouraged the son to stop, it made the parents happy and it also made me happy. Priorities got shifted over there, albeit temporarily? No more fireworks were shot off over there after I visited. Lol If I had fussed or asked for all that to stop, it would probably not have happened. Holding out an olive branch might have brightened things? IDK but I do know that selfish people are just going to be out there. We can teach by example and we may be ignored. We can only try. In this case, it helped the kitties here so I was pleased at the outcome. Yes. I could totally write a book on the subject! A library! I will add that once upon a time I had issues with the parents. Not so anymore. I was a welcomed visitor and I could see how pleased they were by a simple kindness so maybe all hope is not lost. In the years I have known them, they have greatly softened and even learned to appreciate cats! The mother and father apologized about the kitties here being scared. The son hid from me. Lol Their house has been completely quiet since!
I know about not being around others that share your beliefs, morals and interests. It does get lonely. Thank goodness for your roomies and for Elvis. Thank goodness for TCS people too. You will never be truly alone with so many great people here. Bonjour and the Clowder also send lots of snorggles.

Stereotypes. Unh. Fixed thoughts and generalizations are something I find very damaging. Yes, stereotypes come about because of some who stand out in a group but…. more often that not, they cause prejudice against some good and kind people caught up in that generalization. Sad to think that others might think poorly of any group or country since there are some outstanding individuals around. Poor examples should be held responsible as individuals. Time to set great examples everywhere! Fortunately, we have great examples right here on TCS from all over the world! So, spread the word! :):welcomesign::heartshape::grouphug2: Come to TCS to meet good humans!

Whenallhellbreakslose Whenallhellbreakslose So true! It did not relieve stress for me but increased it. I think that fireworks in the proper places are fine but not in a neighborhood! Not near lots of animals. It is inconsiderate. I am so glad all the kitties showed up there. If people were always loving creaturesthey would be called cats. Lol

Glad you liked the videos! I really laughed at the cat and fishing rod! The catnip one was cute. The kitties knew there was catnip drying in that room! I have some growing in hanging baskets here and the kitties love it when I bring in the cuttings. Happy cats! Whistle is always the most excited about it. He will try to grab it from me. They say it mimics cat hormones in the scent so it is no wonder the cats can get a little crazy for it. :climbcat: < Whistle going for the nip! Lol

strider rose strider rose Lol I don’t know if Whistle has seen the Matrix movies but he claims to be the one responsible for the term Animatrix. He says you should note the cat like moves in all the films. :dunno:
